QFES
(Queensland Fire and
Emergency Services)
Expressions of Interest for the 2018 Basegrade Firefighter Campaign are now open
Becoming a firefighter with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) does not come easily.
The process is very competitive and requires hard work and patience.
Applicants only get one opportunity per campaign to successfully complete assessments. To be
successful, you have to prepare. Preparation needs to start early, well before applications open.
Don't worry – you still have time.
Applications for the 2018 QFES Basegrade Firefighter Recruitment Campaign will open in the later part of
this year. The 2018 Campaign will select applicants to fill recruit training programs commencing in
2018.
To help you prepare, a number of assessment demonstrations, open days and information sessions will
be conducted in the months leading up to applications opening. These activities are designed to help
applicants succeed. If you are unsure of the requirements of an assessment, it is highly
recommended you consider attending one of our events.
SAMFS
(South Australian
Metropolitan Fire
Service)
Applications have now closed for the current full time Firefighter
Recruitment and Selection Process.
The MFS is committed to attracting a field of gender and culturally
diverse applicants to ensure its workforce reflects the diversity of the
community it serves and protects. MFS has a strong focus on
providing a family friendly working environment including flexible
working conditions for new parents.
The MFS operates on a rank structure and each Firefighter has the
opportunity through professional development to progress through the
ranks. Full-time Firefighters are currently located throughout the
Adelaide metropolitan area, Port Pirie and Mount Gambier.
DFES
(Department of Fire and
Emergency Services)
There will be no recruitment for Trainee Firefighters in 2017 and
2018. While we don’t have a set date for the next recruitment
campaign, it is most likely to take place sometime in 2019.
DFES is strongly committed to building a diverse workforce
that represents the diversity within WA and strongly
encourages applications from Aboriginal people, young
people, females, and people from culturally diverse
backgrounds. On the right, there are links to more
information about the job a Firefighter really does and the
recruitment process. It also includes a number of
frequently asked questions.
NTPFES
(Northern Territory Fire
and Rescue Service)
The Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service employs
approximately 50 auxiliary firefighters at any time. An
auxiliary or retained firefighter is paid a retainer and a call
out allowance. Auxiliary firefighters are expected to attend
a minimum of two training sessions per month, and at
least one Saturday morning maintenance period per
month.
FRNSW
(Fire and Rescue NSW)
Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is not currently recruiting Permanent Firefighters. Once the 2017
recruitment campaign is confirmed, information will be posted here and on our social media
sites.
Our world-class emergency service organisation relies on intelligent, highly skilled, ethical and
professional individuals from all backgrounds. We look for people who can commit to
FRNSW's values and contribute to our fire education and prevention programs, while working
in close-knit teams to respond to a wide variety of emergency and disaster situations.
Fire and emergency prevention and response is one of the most important and rewarding careers
imaginable. Firefighters are respected community members; and being a firefighter provides
you with the opportunity to make a real and ongoing difference to the people of NSW,
Australia, and the world.
In 2016, FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins issued a pledge for parity. This pledge has made an
equal number of recruit positions available to male and female applicants.
If you’re an intelligent, fit, healthy and community-minded man or woman looking for a unique
challenge, firefighting could be the career for you.
MFB
Applications for recruit firefighters are
currently closed.
A decision to when the MFB will next open up applications is yet to
be made. Once a decision to open up applications again has
been made, details will be provided on this website.
Please ensure that you have read and understand all stages of the
recruit selection process and comply with the minimum entry
requirements and the MFB's driving and prior offences policies
before submitting an applications.

CFA recruits women and men from a wide range of work, life and cultural backgrounds. People who speak
languages in addition to English are encouraged to apply.
Firefighting as a career is suited to people with a genuine desire to serve the community, and who thrive
on working closely with a team.
You don't need to have firefighting or other emergency response skills to apply - all the necessary training
is provided. You do need to:
Have good all-round strength and fitness
Have a full manual drivers’ licence
ACTFR
(ACT Fire & Rescue)
ACT Fire & Rescue will be recruiting in the 2017/18 financial year. Further information including dates
when applications open and close will be posted here once they have been confirmed.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) is extremely proud of our commitment to implement a recruit
college with 50% women and 50% men. This means that women who satisfy the requirements and
meet the standards for the role will fill eight of the sixteen recruit positions.
I am committed to emergency services that embrace and harness the strengths that diversity and
inclusion can provide. The 50:50 recruit college delivers on the ESA’s Women in Emergency Services
Strategy, which aims to recruit more women into our emergency services, as well as supporting more

Recruitment updates

  • 3. We expect to advertise our next intake in late 2017 or 2018. We have no further information to provide future applicants at present. Application to become an Aviation Rescue Fire Fighter are currently closed.
  • 5. Expressions of Interest for the 2018 Basegrade Firefighter Campaign are now open Becoming a firefighter with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) does not come easily. The process is very competitive and requires hard work and patience. Applicants only get one opportunity per campaign to successfully complete assessments. To be successful, you have to prepare. Preparation needs to start early, well before applications open. Don't worry – you still have time. Applications for the 2018 QFES Basegrade Firefighter Recruitment Campaign will open in the later part of this year. The 2018 Campaign will select applicants to fill recruit training programs commencing in 2018. To help you prepare, a number of assessment demonstrations, open days and information sessions will be conducted in the months leading up to applications opening. These activities are designed to help applicants succeed. If you are unsure of the requirements of an assessment, it is highly recommended you consider attending one of our events.
  • 7. Applications have now closed for the current full time Firefighter Recruitment and Selection Process. The MFS is committed to attracting a field of gender and culturally diverse applicants to ensure its workforce reflects the diversity of the community it serves and protects. MFS has a strong focus on providing a family friendly working environment including flexible working conditions for new parents. The MFS operates on a rank structure and each Firefighter has the opportunity through professional development to progress through the ranks. Full-time Firefighters are currently located throughout the Adelaide metropolitan area, Port Pirie and Mount Gambier.
  • 8. DFES (Department of Fire and Emergency Services)
  • 9. There will be no recruitment for Trainee Firefighters in 2017 and 2018. While we don’t have a set date for the next recruitment campaign, it is most likely to take place sometime in 2019. DFES is strongly committed to building a diverse workforce that represents the diversity within WA and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal people, young people, females, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds. On the right, there are links to more information about the job a Firefighter really does and the recruitment process. It also includes a number of frequently asked questions.
  • 11. The Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service employs approximately 50 auxiliary firefighters at any time. An auxiliary or retained firefighter is paid a retainer and a call out allowance. Auxiliary firefighters are expected to attend a minimum of two training sessions per month, and at least one Saturday morning maintenance period per month.
  • 13. Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is not currently recruiting Permanent Firefighters. Once the 2017 recruitment campaign is confirmed, information will be posted here and on our social media sites. Our world-class emergency service organisation relies on intelligent, highly skilled, ethical and professional individuals from all backgrounds. We look for people who can commit to FRNSW's values and contribute to our fire education and prevention programs, while working in close-knit teams to respond to a wide variety of emergency and disaster situations. Fire and emergency prevention and response is one of the most important and rewarding careers imaginable. Firefighters are respected community members; and being a firefighter provides you with the opportunity to make a real and ongoing difference to the people of NSW, Australia, and the world. In 2016, FRNSW Commissioner Greg Mullins issued a pledge for parity. This pledge has made an equal number of recruit positions available to male and female applicants. If you’re an intelligent, fit, healthy and community-minded man or woman looking for a unique challenge, firefighting could be the career for you.
  • 14. MFB
  • 15. Applications for recruit firefighters are currently closed. A decision to when the MFB will next open up applications is yet to be made. Once a decision to open up applications again has been made, details will be provided on this website. Please ensure that you have read and understand all stages of the recruit selection process and comply with the minimum entry requirements and the MFB's driving and prior offences policies before submitting an applications.

The application schedule for 2018 has been changed The new date will be advertised as soon as it is available Please check in regularly on this page for updates or announcements CFA recruits women and men from a wide range of work, life and cultural backgrounds. People who speak languages in addition to English are encouraged to apply. Firefighting as a career is suited to people with a genuine desire to serve the community, and who thrive on working closely with a team. You don't need to have firefighting or other emergency response skills to apply - all the necessary training is provided. You do need to: Have good all-round strength and fitness Have a full manual drivers’ licence
  • 18. ACTFR (ACT Fire & Rescue)
  • 19. ACT Fire & Rescue will be recruiting in the 2017/18 financial year. Further information including dates when applications open and close will be posted here once they have been confirmed. The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) is extremely proud of our commitment to implement a recruit college with 50% women and 50% men. This means that women who satisfy the requirements and meet the standards for the role will fill eight of the sixteen recruit positions.
