This document summarizes a presentation given at a CCPA meeting about rock art recording at the Wolf Creek Pictograph Site in Colorado. It discusses threats to rock art like vandalism. It also details the equipment and techniques used to record and enhance photos of the pictographs, including a Nikon DSLR camera on a pole, the Dstretch software to enhance images, and use of different colorspaces. Finally, it provides original and enhanced composite photos from several panels at the site showing improved visibility of pictographs after processing.

Astrophotography with a side of Raspberry PiRob Pettengill
A Practical Astronomy talk given to the April 11, 2014 meeting of the Austin Astronomical Society. Learn about the basics of low cost planetary astrophotography with the Raspberry Pi a credit card sized Linux computer with a 5MP camera module that costs less than $70. Ultra small networked computers like the Raspberry Pi are being used by amateur astronomers in many ways. Details of the Astro RPi prime focus camera are described as well as sensor selection and optical and processing techniques to get the most out of your telescope images.
Be sure to see my more recent RPi Cam slideshow here at SlideShare. High resolution example images are available from http://astronomy.robpettengill.org/
This presentation was originally written to accompany a lecture and demonstration so you may find some of this a bit "off". Power through it and see what you can take from it.

This presentation was originally written to go along with a lecture and demo. Because of this aspect you may find some of the material a bit confusing.
Hahnenberg Observatory in Michigan presents information for those interested in building a domed observatory, learning about the different kinds of telescopes and CCD cameras available. Sample astrophotographs, and types of CCD software, are also included in the presentation.

– Adapted for rock art recording by
Jon Harman, Ph.D.
• Modified to run in a plugin for the ImageJ image

13. Dstretch Photography Tips
From the Dstretch website
1. Camera: Bigger sensor is better, DSLR’s are good. Lens makes a
difference.
2. Megapixels: Higher is not necessarily better, but use all you have
(See 6.)
3. Best format is tiff or raw. If you use jpeg use the highest quality
setting.
4. Use the lowest ISO setting available on your camera. Don’t use
auto ISO.
5. Use flash in low light settings (rockshelters). Avoid direct sun.
6. If shooting jpegs use the highest camera resolution setting
(highest megapixels).
