3. The Survey
● About one in four respondents indicated that
they prefer to invest in real estate, while only
17 percent reported stocks as the favored
investment vehicle.
● Cash investment, including savings accounts
and certificates of deposit, was endorsed by 23
percent of respondents.

4. Demographics
● Surprisingly, younger respondents tended to
be more risk-averse than older individuals.
● Millennials actually indicated a preference for
cash investments over real estate or stocks.
● Real estate investment was most popular
among individuals between 30 and 49. Also,
men preferred real estate more than women.

5. Conclusions
● The results of this survey may stem from the recent
financial crisis.
● Bankrate conjectured that many Americans still have
anxiety due to the short-term volatility of the stock
market and would rather choose more stable
investments - even if the returns were not as high.
● The S&P 500 has risen more than 25 percent in the
past two years, but confidence has not increased.
● Americans are only 3 percent more likely to turn to
stocks now than they were before.
