The apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, so they sent Peter and John to pray for them. Peter and John laid hands on the people of Samaria and prayed that they might receive the Holy Spirit. The people then received the Holy Spirit. John baptized people with water but told them one more powerful was coming who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. After Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended on him in the form of a dove and a voice from heaven said "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased."
