Reading

Visual Imagery

Two equally
important
competencies
• One is language
comprehension the ability to
construct meaning from
spoken representations of
language;
• The second is decoding–
the
ability to recognize written
representations of words.
Visual Imagery
is the ability to “recreate the sensory world in absence of
visual stimuli” (Goldstein, 2011). A more simple way to
explain
visual imagery is information passing through the brain
as
though something is being perceived, when nothing is
happening.

One general technique that can be used
to
improve memory is visual imagery. This
is a memory technique in which we
construct mental images when learning
new information in order to better
recall the information later.
Imagery can make something abstract,
like an emotion or theory, seem more
concrete and tangible to the reader.
How is Visual
Imagery effective?
How does visual imagery
help
memory?
How does
visualizing help a
reader?
Visualization helps readers engage in
text in ways that make it memorable
and persona-ble. it stimulates the
imagination, enhances
involvement with the text, and
improves
mental imagery.
How do visual
images enhance
meaning?
Visuals help people make sense
out of the content and direct
attention, increasing the
possibilities that it will be
remembered.

Why do
good
readers
visualize?
Visualizing is an important reading strategy that good readers use
to help create mental images or movies in their minds to represent
the ideas that they read in the text. The images that they make
help them to understand what they are reading at a deeper level.
Why visualization is
important
in learning?
It helps them to create images, scenarios, or
movies
in their minds that reflect to the text. Visualizing
makes it easier for students to understand the text
because they are looking beyond the words and
creating images that help them understand the
text.
Why is visual
imagery more
important?
What are visual
images?
– a mental image that is similar to a
visual
perception, visualization
image, and mental image
– a percept that arises from the eyes;
an image in the visual system.;
What is visual reading?
The basic definition of visual
literacy is the ability to read, write
and create
visual images. It is a concept that
relates to art and design but it also
has much wider applications.
Visual literacy is about language,
communication and interaction.

Editor's Notes

  • #1 Good evening maam and classmates, so for tonight we are going to tackle about one of the main topic in Cognitive psychology. The Reading and visual Imagery on how it affect our brain, and our ability to picture out image from what we are reading and as to what extent it affect us.
