2. A media institution is a company that disperses
any media product for audience
consumption. It deals with the distribution of
the media product.

3. The institution would mainly disperse the film
product to any cinemas, either nationally or
internationally.
Then after being shown at the cinemas they
would usually then dispersed to shops to sell
as merchandise, in forms of DVD’s or
soundtracks etc.

4. This is a list of popular media institutions that
would be suitable to distribute our film to
cinemas and shops etc:
 The UK Film Council
 BBC Films
 Vertigo Films
 Film Four

5. This institution has backed up more than 900
films, which also include feature and short
films.
They support many directors by funding their
British films to try and attract a larger
audience to them.
They also have a large backing where they are
funded by the National Lottery. They are also
partnered with the British Film Institution,
Skill Set, First Light, Film Club and the
National Screen Agencies.

6. BBC Films are the forefront in producing British
Independent Films. They are committed in
finding and developing new talents they have
found through these independent British film
makers.
However they are picky about the films they
back up and it might be a bit of trouble
trying to get a backing.

7. Vertigo Films is a UK based media company
which focuses on creating and distributing
commercially driven independent cinema.
Vertigo films use new technology and they pay
attention to the budgets of their films, this is
to address their audience in the most care to
produce a film that the audience will
approve of.

8. Film Four showcases a wade range of British made
films and also international films that have come
from all over the world.
Not only do they just show films, they also produce
their own films. An example of one of their films
that became an award winning film is “This Is
England” by Shane Meadows.
Film Four is also partnered with different
companies. One of these being warp X Films
where they challenge British and any
International films by creating new ones for a
lower budget, with the intention of expanding
the niche audience.

9. For our film we could consider going to all of
the institutions mentioned, so that we are
able to over all of the issues that come with
making a film, which include a budget for
the film and distributing to the cinemas and
retailers.
Also as these institutions are well known
throughout the UK, we hope that our film
would attract interest from a variety of
audiences and help widen our niche audience
to a larger general audience.
