Culture
The culture of Quebec emerged over the last few 100 years, it is the only region in
North America with a French speaking majority, as well as one of only two
provinces in Canada where French is a constitutionally recognized official
language (New Brunswick being the other).
The name Quebec was first given to the province in 1608 and derived from an
Algonquian word meaning “where the river narrows”.

Poutine
Poutine is a Canadian dish, originating in the province of Quebec, made with French fries
and cheese curds topped with gravy (a lot of gravy).
Quebec’s love for poutine has now travelled the world and is now one of the favourites for a
lot of people. Poutines ingredients can be accompanied by anything such as:
 Smoked meat
 Bacon
 Onions
 Eggs
 Pulled pork
 Spaghetti sauce
Meat pie
Although meat pie is not believed to have originated in Quebec, Quebecers sure hold it
close to heart. Meat pie is made with pie pastry holding together brown meat and other
ingredients such as:
 Potatoes
 Broccolis
 Celery
 Celery
Basically anything toped with maple syrup
Like any other province in Canada, Quebecers sure love their maple syrup, so anything
containing the magnificent golden brown liquid is sure to turn any frown upside down.
Sugar bushes are popular in Quebec, these fattening but not regretful restaurants contain:
