It presents four principles of simple design: all tests pass, intent is clear, lack of excess, and minimal classes and methods. However, simplicity is not easy and there are many pitfalls. True simplicity requires an evolutionary approach, removing excess, communicating intent clearly, and focusing on structure and necessary abstractions over implementation details. Tests, minimal coupling, and coherence are also important to achieve simplicity without being stupidly simple.

Jednym z największych problemów, z jakim borykają się zespoły testowe, jest konfiguracja środowisk i danych testowych oraz zarządzanie testami automatycznymi w tych środowiskach. Z pomocą może przyjść Docker — narzędzie do „wirtualizacji” aplikacji oraz testów. Dzięki zastosowaniu Dockera możliwe jest nie tylko łatwiejsze budowanie środowisk lokalnych w codziennej pracy testerów, lecz także dokładniejsze konfigurowanie środowisk do testów regresyjnych oraz wykonywanie testów automatycznych w Continuous Integration.

Monika, Michał i Tomasz w swojej prelekcji skupili się na Scrumie jako narzędziu pozwalającym dostarczać wartość. Jej celem było obalenie mitów, z którymi testerzy spotykają się w praktyce. Było to możliwe poprzez wyjaśnienie, jak powstały i jak mogą skrzywdzić zespół. Postawione tezy zostały podparte The Scrum Guide, jednak prowadzący skupili się przede wszystkim na praktyce i doświadczeniach z codziennej pracy.

Wypracowane rozwiązania z czasem ewoluowały i przed zespołem Zbyszka pojawiły się nowe wyzwania. Równolegle ewoluowała także sama organizacja, sposób dostarczania oprogramowania oraz dojrzałość zespołów projektowych. Praca Inżyniera Jakości Oprogramowania kojarzy się głównie z testowaniem, jednak wraz z rozwojem produktu testy przestają wystarczać. Aby wyjść naprzeciw oczekiwaniom klientów i rozwiązywać ich problemy, należy zrobić krok naprzód – tak właśnie postąpił zespół Piotra. Aby na bieżąco tropić błędy w aplikacjach, wykorzystali podejście Continuous Monitoring.
W czasie prelekcji Piotr przedstawił wyniki pracy zespołu Quality Assurance, który przeprowadza taki monitoring: co i w jaki sposób jest mierzone oraz jak wykorzystywane są zebrane dane. Pokazał też kilka krytycznych błędów, które udało się wykryć właśnie dzięki stałemu monitorowaniu serwisów.
Identifying and Managing Technical Debt
The technical debt metaphor is useful in capturing the long-term impacts of
tradeoffs taken during software maintenance between productivity (getting
something done sooner) and maintainability (degradation of the code's
quality over time). This webinar on Technical Debt will present
techniques and insights that help software engineers to identify and track
technical debt in their projects. We will outline how business and product
quality goals should affect the choice of approaches (and combinations of
approaches) for managing technical debt. More specifically, we will discuss
a set of automated approaches based on static code analysis that are likely
to spot problems in source code that have real impact on productivity and
defect proneness. Based on previous empirical studies, we will give further
advice on which types of debt can be found by these tools, and which types
are not yet detectable.

Szczepan Faber is a Tech Lead for LinkedIn Development Tools, responsible for developer productivity at LinkedIn. Previously, he was core engineer of Gradle 1.x and 2.x. and instructed numerous classes on build automation. He created Mockito framework in 2007, currently estimated user base of 2M, and has been giving classes on automated testing since.

LinkedIn and Mockito are two different use cases of implementing continuous delivery at scale. Yet the challenges, benefits and impact on the engineering culture are very similar.
In 2015, LinkedIn’s flagship application adopted a continuous delivery model we called 3x3: deploy to production 3 times a day, with a 3 hour maximum time from commit to production. At LinkedIn scale - hundreds of engineers building products for 500M users - implementing 3x3 was really hard. How did 3x3 change LinkedIn engineering culture and what we have learned on the way?
Mockito is a top 3 Java library with ~2M users. Even with that large user base, since 2014, the Mockito project has taken the surprising approach of publishing a new version of the library from every single pull request. This approach is challenging and innovative in the Java community, and Mockito leverages Shipkit to ship every change to production. Why did the Mockito team adopt continuous delivery in 2014 and what we have learned to date?

Jednym z głównych założeń Screenplay Pattern jest projektowanie zorientowane na użytkownika, dzięki czemu testy przyjmują formę języka naturalnego, co ma wspomagać szybsze tworzenie i łatwiejsze utrzymanie przypadków testowych.

Prezentacja z VI edycji Quality Excites. Jak startup może przekonać do siebie klienta? Michał zaproponował zastosowanie argumentu, który w Dolinie Krzemowej nazywa się „overwhelming advantage”. Jest to rozwiązanie, które daje tak ogromne możliwości, że odbiorca nie może sobie pozwolić aby go nie kupić.
Podczas wystąpienia Michał opowiedział jak technologiczne startupy szukają swojej przewagi. Użył przykładów ze swojego zespołu aby opisać, jak można poradzić sobie z bezlitosnym rynkiem, z częstymi zmianami wymagań oraz z ciągłym ciśnieniem, aby dostarczać jeszcze szybciej.

Dynamiczny rozwój organizacji, większa liczba projektów, nowi klienci, czy transformacja ze startupu do dojrzałej organizacji — to są właśnie prawdziwe wyzwania. Aby im sprostać, zespół Cognifide zdefiniował jakościowe metryki oraz wprowadził cykliczne raportowanie (QA Reports). Wypracowane rozwiązania z czasem ewoluowały i przed zespołem Zbyszka pojawiły się nowe wyzwania. Równolegle ewoluowała także sama organizacja, sposób dostarczania oprogramowania oraz dojrzałość zespołów projektowych. W swoim wystąpieniu Zbyszek przeanalizował, jak metryki i raporty sprawdzały się na różnych etapach rozwoju organizacji.

Prezentacja z VI edycji Quality Excites. Tomasz i Dawid przedstawili ewolucję pracy testera, która w dzisiejszych czasach nierzadko wymaga umiejętności tworzenia i utrzymania odpowiednich środowisk do testów, do których stworzenia potrzebna jest wiedza na poziomie DevOpsa.
Celem wystąpienia było przestawienie przykładowego szkieletu takiego środowiska do testów oraz narzędzi, które powinny się znaleźć w przyborniku TestOpsa.

Praca Inżyniera Jakości Oprogramowania kojarzy się głównie z testowaniem, jednak wraz z rozwojem produktu testy przestają wystarczać. Aby wyjść naprzeciw oczekiwaniom klientów i rozwiązywać ich problemy, należy zrobić krok naprzód – tak właśnie postąpił zespół Piotra. Aby na bieżąco tropić błędy w aplikacjach, wykorzystali podejście Continuous Monitoring.
W czasie prelekcji Piotr przedstawił wyniki pracy zespołu Quality Assurance, który przeprowadza taki monitoring: co i w jaki sposób jest mierzone oraz jak wykorzystywane są zebrane dane. Pokazał też kilka krytycznych błędów, które udało się wykryć właśnie dzięki stałemu monitorowaniu serwisów.
Identifying and Managing Technical Debt
The technical debt metaphor is useful in capturing the long-term impacts of
tradeoffs taken during software maintenance between productivity (getting
something done sooner) and maintainability (degradation of the code's
quality over time). This webinar on Technical Debt will present
techniques and insights that help software engineers to identify and track
technical debt in their projects. We will outline how business and product
quality goals should affect the choice of approaches (and combinations of
approaches) for managing technical debt. More specifically, we will discuss
a set of automated approaches based on static code analysis that are likely
to spot problems in source code that have real impact on productivity and
defect proneness. Based on previous empirical studies, we will give further
advice on which types of debt can be found by these tools, and which types
are not yet detectable.

Szczepan Faber is a Tech Lead for LinkedIn Development Tools, responsible for developer productivity at LinkedIn. Previously, he was core engineer of Gradle 1.x and 2.x. and instructed numerous classes on build automation. He created Mockito framework in 2007, currently estimated user base of 2M, and has been giving classes on automated testing since.

LinkedIn and Mockito are two different use cases of implementing continuous delivery at scale. Yet the challenges, benefits and impact on the engineering culture are very similar.
In 2015, LinkedIn’s flagship application adopted a continuous delivery model we called 3x3: deploy to production 3 times a day, with a 3 hour maximum time from commit to production. At LinkedIn scale - hundreds of engineers building products for 500M users - implementing 3x3 was really hard. How did 3x3 change LinkedIn engineering culture and what we have learned on the way?
Mockito is a top 3 Java library with ~2M users. Even with that large user base, since 2014, the Mockito project has taken the surprising approach of publishing a new version of the library from every single pull request. This approach is challenging and innovative in the Java community, and Mockito leverages Shipkit to ship every change to production. Why did the Mockito team adopt continuous delivery in 2014 and what we have learned to date?

Istnieją jednak narzędzia ułatwiające pracę, o których marzy każdy tester. Mogą one znacząco wpłynąć na poprawę jakości w projekcie jak i zwiększenie ilości i różnorodności testów, które są przeprowadzane. Podczas prezentacji Dorota skupia się na debug screenie Hyperion, który sprawia, że zyskujemy szereg nowych możliwości, od testowania wydajności aplikacji, po podglądanie zapytań i odpowiedzi API.

Im większy system, tym większej uwagi wymaga. Rozproszone środowisko dodatkowo wymusza korzystanie z zewnętrznych rozwiązań ułatwiających pracę ze stanem systemu, takich jak cache.
Zdarzyło Ci się kiedyś pogubić w tym, gdzie leży która usługa i skąd się wziął błąd w systemie? Czy nie łatwiej byłoby mieć jedno narzędzie, które utrzyma wszystkie usługi pod kontrolą i zapewni niezawodne zarządzanie stanem aplikacji bez konieczności używania zewnętrznych systemów? W czasie swojej prelekcji Krzysiek przedstawił, jak sprawdzony w bojach Azure Service Fabric zapewnia stabilną kontrolę nad systemem mikroserwisów oraz pozwala stworzyć aplikację bez użycia zewnętrznej bazy danych i systemu cachingu. Swoje doświadczenie z Azure Service Fabric nabył w codziennej pracy w dużym projekcie dla korporacji finansowej w FP.

This uniformity must seamlessly span from Build pipelines to various stages of the Release pipeline.
Challenge #2. Coordinated Test Execution Across Environments: Executing distinct subsets of tests using the same automation framework across diverse environments, such as the build pipeline and specific stages of the Release Pipeline, demands flexible and cohesive approaches.
