Qatar's economy grew by 4.1% in Q1 2015, driven by an 8.9% expansion in the non-hydrocarbon sector as the country continues its economic diversification efforts. Major contributors to non-hydrocarbon growth were construction, financial services, and manufacturing. The hydrocarbon sector contracted slightly by 0.1% due to lower oil output and gas facility maintenance, but is expected to recover medium-term. Qatar is also undergoing "vertical diversification" into more advanced hydrocarbon industries like petrochemicals.
