Pyramids of number and biomass are visual representations of food chains. Pyramids of number show the number of organisms at each trophic level, such as one hawk needing 100 blue tits. Pyramids of biomass show the amount of energy or biomass present at each level, rather than just numbers. Examples are given of drawing pyramids of number and biomass for different food chains to illustrate these concepts.
