In this paper you will deconstruct a media message of your choosing. This means you will closely examine an audio-, video-, or text-based news story of your

you will seek to understand who created the message, who is the intended receiver, how the content was created, what values or biases are present in the
content, and what hidden meanings might be present. You will complete original research and find a minimum of three sources to support your interpretations
and arguments discussed in the following critical elements.
You can fulfill the research requirement for the paper in several ways. One option is to find scholarly resources that support a claim you make in the paper. For
example, you might argue that the author is biased. You could then include research about bias in news reporting. Another option is to research different
persuasive tools beyond those provided in your class readings and use those sources to fulfill your research requirement. Another option is to research more

In this project, you will choose a topic of interest from the field of humanities, including but not limited to

When you look at ancient art, particularly ancient sculpture, you see progression in how the body in motion is represented. For this assignment, find 3 different sculptures, all from the ancient period (created between 30,000 BCE and 500 CE), which show progression of how the body is depicted in motion. For example, your first sculpture may be largely stationary, the second shows some motion, while the third shows an active body.
You may choose examples of sculpture from any of the following museums:

The second portion of this assignment is the rhetorical analysis, which should be at least 400-500 words in length. In the rhetorical analysis, you will explain how you used the five features to make the same exact place seem so very positive in one paragraph and yet so negative in the second paragraph.
The second portion of this assignment is a two step process.
1.) Review your two paragraphs noting each of the places you used any of the tools in the Writer's Toolbox. Try to find at least two examples of each of the tools from the Writer's Toolbox employed in each descriptions (except for tell sentences and direct statements of meaning, which you should have limited to only one per paragraph). If you canât find two examples of the other features in each of your descriptions, youâll probably want to revise your initial description, adding more of those features.
2.) Write your rhetorical analysis, devoting at least one paragraph to each of the tools in the Writer's Toolbox. You will probably want to begin each paragraph of the rhetorical analysis with a general claim.  âI used a great deal of word choice in each of my two descriptions.â Then youâll want to follow that claim with examples. âFor instance, in my positive paragraph, I described the sun as âgleaming,â which implies that the light was pleasantly bright. However, in my negative paragraph, I described the sun as âglaring,â implying that the light was too bright, and in fact painful to look at.â

Rhetorical Analysis
  I chose Pillsbury Crossing for my descriptions in this paper. I enjoyed writing about Pillsbury Crossing because it seemed to offer many positive and negatives, and I had never been there before. This allowed me to record my own first impressions, both pleasant and unpleasant. The floodplain is very peaceful, yet it is scarred by humankindâs misuse of the nature park.
  I wrote my first sentence as an overt statement which explained the mood of the rest of the paragraph. For my pleasant impression, I stated âNatureâs beauty surrounds me,â emphasizing the beauty on can find in a place such as this. In contrast, for my negative impression, I wrote âDeath has had her way here.â The notion of death immediately makes the tone grim and unpleasant, even though death is also a fundamental aspect of the natural world.
  With my tone clearly established, I next had to consider my word choice very carefully. In order to show the reader what I experienced, I had to choose words that fit the mood of the description as set by my overt statements of meaning. In my pleasant description, I discuss the sunâs rays and how they are âcrispâ and ârelieving.â These words make the sunâs rays seem pleasant and positive; however, in the negative description, th.

When you look at ancient art, particularly ancient sculpture, you see progression in how the body in motion is represented. For this assignment, find 3 different sculptures, all from the ancient period (created between 30,000 BCE and 500 CE), which show progression of how the body is depicted in motion. For example, your first sculpture may be largely stationary, the second shows some motion, while the third shows an active body.
You may choose examples of sculpture from any of the following museums:

Paste images of all 3 sculptures into a Word document, and include details about each work: the title of each sculpture, the artist (if known), the year made, the materials used, and the size of the work. The second portion of this assignment is the rhetorical analysis, which should be at least 400-500 words in length. In the rhetorical analysis, you will explain how you used the five features to make the same exact place seem so very positive in one paragraph and yet so negative in the second paragraph.
The second portion of this assignment is a two step process.
1.) Review your two paragraphs noting each of the places you used any of the tools in the Writer's Toolbox. Try to find at least two examples of each of the tools from the Writer's Toolbox employed in each descriptions (except for tell sentences and direct statements of meaning, which you should have limited to only one per paragraph). If you canât find two examples of the other features in each of your descriptions, youâll probably want to revise your initial description, adding more of those features.
2.) Write your rhetorical analysis, devoting at least one paragraph to each of the tools in the Writer's Toolbox. You will probably want to begin each paragraph of the rhetorical analysis with a general claim.  âI used a great deal of word choice in each of my two descriptions.â Then youâll want to follow that claim with examples. âFor instance, in my positive paragraph, I described the sun as âgleaming,â which implies that the light was pleasantly bright. However, in my negative paragraph, I described the sun as âglaring,â implying that the light was too bright, and in fact painful to look at.â

Rhetorical Analysis
  I chose Pillsbury Crossing for my descriptions in this paper. I enjoyed writing about Pillsbury Crossing because it seemed to offer many positive and negatives, and I had never been there before. This allowed me to record my own first impressions, both pleasant and unpleasant. The floodplain is very peaceful, yet it is scarred by humankindâs misuse of the nature park.
  I wrote my first sentence as an overt statement which explained the mood of the rest of the paragraph. For my pleasant impression, I stated âNatureâs beauty surrounds me,â emphasizing the beauty on can find in a place such as this. In contrast, for my negative impression, I wrote âDeath has had her way here.â The notion of death immediately makes the tone grim and unpleasant, even though death is also a fundamental aspect of the natural world.
  With my tone clearly established, I next had to consider my word choice very carefully. In order to show the reader what I experienced, I had to choose words that fit the mood of the description as set by my overt statements of meaning. In my pleasant description, I discuss the sunâs rays and how they are âcrispâ and ârelieving.â These words make the sunâs rays seem pleasant and positive; however, in the negative description, th.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
âĸ The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
âĸ The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate âany matterâ at âany timeâ under House Rule X.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
