Puente Genil is a town in southern Spain that originated around 300 years ago along the Genil River. The population has grown from 9,500 people to around 35,000 currently. The Genil River is 359 km long and flows through the town under a bridge, giving the town its name which means Genil Bridge. The town features streets named after famous Spanish people like Federico García Lorca and Pablo Picasso as well as schools named after notable figures. Two famous people born in Puente Genil were flamenco singer Antonio Fernández Díaz and poet Juan Rejano who wrote several works between 1921-1943.
