Basic information about the
bank
 State Bank of India is an Indian Multinational, public sector
banking and financial services company.
 It is a government owned corporation with its head quarters in
Mumbai, Maharashtra.
 2 June 1806, Bank of Calcutta.
 27 January 1921, Imperial Bank of India.
 1 July 1955, State Bank of India.
 2 June 1956, Nationalisation.
 As of 2015-2016 it has assets of INR 20.480 trillion(US 300
BILLION)
 More than 14,000 branches, including 191 foreign offices spread
across 36 countries.
 Largest Banking and Financial services company in India by
assets.
 The company is ranked 232nd on the Fortune Global 500 list of the
worlds biggest corporations as of 2016.
 It has 20% market share in deposits and loans among Indian
commercial banks.
Functions and its objectives
Central Banking Functions:
1. Banker to the government
2. Banker to banks in a limited way
3. Maintenance of currency chest
4. Acts as clearing house
5. Renders promotional functions
General Banking Functions:
1. Accepting deposits from the public under current, savings, fixed
and recurring deposit accounts.
2. Advancing and lending money and opening cash credits upon the
security of stocks, securities, etc.
3. Drawing, accepting, discounting, buying and selling of bills of
exchange and other negotiable instruments.
4. Investing funds, in specified kinds of securities.
5. Offering remittance facilities such as, demand drafts, mail
transfers telegraphic transfers, etc.
6. Buying and selling of gold and silver
7. Provides shipping finance.
8. Provides Merchant Banking Facilities.
9. Promotes housing finance through "SBI Home Finance Ltd".
10. The State Bank may with the sanction of the Central
Government, enter into negotiations for acquiring the
business of any other Banking Institutions.

 They should have an introducer, who already have an SB a/c
with SBI or any other renowned person.
 Cash Rs1000- for first transactions .
 If we want to deposit Rs50,000-PAN card is must.
Fixed Deposits, Term Deposits, Recurring Deposits:
The documents required for opening these accounts should be
inter-linked with the individuals savings account as for opening
these accounts they must have an savings account.
Hence the documents required for opening these
accounts are same as required as per savings account.
