Psychology & Psychologist
(Spreading Awareness)
Have you ever pay attention to your daily routine? In everything you do, think, feel and
response, there is psychology. Upon deep analysis, even of simple situations that cause
you to smile provides some kind of information about the things, which help you to
become happy. It is essential to understand psychology first. Psychology has knowledge
about the functioning of our mind in relation to our body. Undoubtedly all happenings
around you possess some kind of psychology. There are numerous branches of
psychology, clinical psychology, health psychology, forensic psychology, educational
psychology, and organizational psychology. It all starts from a human’s personality and
continues throughout someone’s life. The subject helps in shaping behaviors, enhancing
productivity, promoting acceptance and individuality.
With the increase of life threatening diseases, social evils and the rate of mortality
following psychological pain, the need of psychologist in every area of profession has
been increased. For example, a patient with chronic illness in a hospital needs a
psychological session to ease the emotional burden due to the health damages and a
salesman in a fashion brand needs to consult a psychologist if he is unable to handle
workload and stress of being working all the day, standing at the shop showing temper
tantrums to his subordinates. Psychologists make you learn about effective interaction
with others, they give awareness to you about your own self. The understanding of
internal world is then converts your energy positively into practical ideas. Hence,
indirectly predicting your high rate of satisfaction.
One of the powerful roles being a psychologist is in clinical setting; mental hospitals
and psychiatric clinics where patients visit due to suffering from serious
psychological disorder. Various wards and departments require psychologists for
different purposes. The patients recover by evaluation and treatment facilities they
receive after referred to a psychologist. Assessment of mental state of a patient is
carried out. Based on the presenting problem i.e. changes in eating behaviors,
extreme mood swings, hallucinations or excessive use of a substance/drug,
psychological testing is used to measure the intensity of symptoms. Treatment is
offered which varies case to case depending on the nature of a disorder. Individual
therapeutic interventions, family and group counseling sessions and skills training
i.e. stress management, coping strategies is planned. Regular monitoring of the
patient’s condition is done until the symptoms cured. Psychologists educate
humanity whenever needed. Their consultancy and psychotherapy services are
always available.
The psychologists do demand something professionally for them to work in a better
way. They must be provided with secure and unbiased opportunities to benefit
people at community level. They should be allowed to practice freely to use their
professional judgment skills. A committee on government level must be established
for psychologists to register and become licensed to prevent any harm. It will
eliminate injustice and inequality to inculcate reasonable and appropriate programs
for the psychologists to achieve their reputable positions in the future. Strictness for
following code of ethics legally similar to APA, all over a nation will be a powerful
tool to supply worth to the profession.
It is a duty of a psychologist to promote mental health services through training
programs and educational workshops at all types of institutions to play most of their
part in serving vulnerable individuals of a society.
Weak will be strengthen and strong will be grown.
