Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

What’s up with the weather?
In recent years, the daily weather reports have sounded like real news – surprising and
sometimes even frightening.
Examples:
♦ In the United States, a June snowfall in Colorado and floods in the southern
California desert.
♦ The worst drought in fifty years in a large part of the African continent.
♦ The coldest summer in history in Melbourne, Australia.
So, what’s up with the weather? Are we seeing a worldwide change in climate, or are
snowy summer days not really so strange?
Scientists say that unusual weather is not really unusual at all. In fact, they say we
should always expect extreme hot and cold or wet and dry periods. Scientists also
point out that natural disasters can cause extreme weather that lasts for months or
even years. Volcanic eruptions, for example, can change temperatures around the
world. Other experts, however, point out that these explanations do not explain some
major changes in the earth’s climate – such as the rapid growth of the Sahara Desert
during the last ten years.

Electronic mail is proving to be a boon to the institutionalized elderly.
“Nursering home residents, even frail* ones, take to computers quickly and
can revitalize their lives through e-mail and the Internet,” say experts to The
New York Times. “People who master the technology gain confidence that
spreads into other aspects of their lives, and many take pride in helping
teach the skills to their fellow residents.” Not only does E-mail put the
elderly in touch with distant family members, health-care providers, and old
friends but it also does much to overcome the helplessness, boredom, and
loneliness that descend on those confined to nursering homes and
wheelchairs, as a result of illness and advanced age. Moral is boosted*,
and depression drops as well. Some elderly people even participate in on-

CHRISTMAS IN THE U.S.A.
Christmas is a religious holiday. It is the day on which Christians celebrate
the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a happy holiday celebrated in December.
Families come together to share their happiness, attend church, and
exchange gifts. In the days before Christmas, parties are held in schools,
offices, factories, and clubs. Stores are crowded with shoppers. Cities and
towns in our country are decorated with bright lights and Christmas trees.
Store windows display gifts and nativity scenes. The traditional colors are
red and green. Costa Rican families prepare special foods, like tamales and
pork leg. However, in the United States they prepare stuffed turkey. People
go to shopping centers. They buy presents and have them wrapped with
colorful bright paper and ribbons.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
From Monday to Friday evenings
and on weekends most people are
free to relax and enjoy themselves.
It depends on individual interests.
There are many different ways to
spend the spare time. Almost
everyone has some kind of hobby.
A lot of people like to make
collections that cost a lot of money;
others are valuable only to their
owners.
A man has a coin collection that is
worth several thousand dollars. A
short time ago, he bought a rare
fifty-cent piece. Its worth is $ 1 250.
He was very happy about his
purchase and thought the price was
reasonable. On the other hand, a
little boy collects “shells”. He has
almost 30 different shells. This
collection is extremely valuable for
this boy. Nothing makes him
happier than to find a new shell for
his collection.
That is what a hobby means. It is
something people like to do in their
spare time, simply for the fun of it.
Finally, the value in money is not
important, but the pleasure it gives
people.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN COSTA RICA
The bus system is the most important of the public transportation system in
Costa Rica. This system is very useful for people who do not know how to
drive or for people who do not have a car. Moreover, this is not an expensive
service, and most of the people uses it. This service has the advantage that
many people can travel by bus and enjoy the excellent views Costa Rica
offers.
The public bus system is reliable, timely and safe. Normally the buses are in
very good condition and most arrive on time. First-class bus companies offer
round trip fares to various points of interest, as well as to neighboring
countries, Panamá and Nicaragua.
San José is the gateway to the rest of the country and it is an excellent
place to centralize travel plans. The road is generally in good condition but it
is mountainous in some areas. During the rainy season always be on the
lookout for falling rocks and mud slides. Besides, there are some potholes in
the roads, so bus drivers must drive carefully and look ahead.

Incredible Umbrella Birds
Umbrellabirds are rare and reclusive. They are part of a stunning group of neotropical
birds called Cotingas, each of which has an allure.
What makes umbrellabirds fascinating – aside from their astonishing appearance – is
that only three species exist in the world: bare-necked umbrellabird, Ceph-alopterus
glabricollis, (in Costa Rica and Panamá, Amazonian umbrellabird, C. ornatus, several
South American countries), and long-wattled umbrellabird, C. penduliger, (Colombia
and Ecuador). Birdlife International classifies both the bare-necked and long-wattled
species as “threatened.”
What do they look like? They look unlike anything you have ever
seen. By bird standards, they’re big. They are big and black with
bright-red chest pouches and a dangling tassel. The genus name,
cephalopterus, means “big head,” and an enormous crown of
feathers that can stick up straight like a bottle brush or fall to the
front like a rock star’s hair that makes it look huge.
Reclusive: lonely, alone, solitaire
Stunning: beautiful, attractive
Pouches: a bag of skin
Dangling tassel: a bunch of feathers hanging

Our Independence
Since its discovery, Costa Rica was part of Spain until it became
independent on September 15th
, 1821. Several reasons motivated the
Spanish colonies in America to look for their independence. In Central
America, all colonies except Costa Rica fought for their independence and
obtained it by signing a Declaration in the city of Guatemala. The peace
that has always characterized Costa Rica and the long distance between
Costa Rica and Guatemala kept our country far from these situations.
Costa Rica received the news of independence until the thirteenth of
October, almost a month after it was declared. Everybody was surprised
and happy. From that time to the present, Costa Ricans love peace and
keep it up to today.
