Proposal to formalize partnership with national softball association
1. Proposal to Formalize Partnership with National Softball Association
BWSC:BWSC is a multi-disciplinary design firm based in Nashville, TN, which has a long and successful
history with the design of outdoor sports complexes.
National Softball Association's MISSION is to be the most successful Softball Association in the United
States.
“We will achieve success by uncompromising commitment to: (one of 4 commitments listed)
INDUSTRY LEADING VALUE/SELECTION/SERVICES
Offering only the highest quality league and tournament playing facilities, providing customers with an
outstanding balance of selection and services.”
Sincerely,
Hugh Cantrell
Purpose of Pursuing Partnership with NSA:
To increase the number of successful sports complexesdesigned and engineered by BWSCsuitable for
national tournaments.
Desirable Possible Outcomes:
Establish NSA as the undisputed leading body for offering the highest quality league &
tournament facilities
NSA requires all new facilities to be certified by BWSC
NSA refers cities and counties to BWSC for design and engineering of sports complexes
BWSC is an endorsed provider of Design services for sports complexes
Minimum Standards would be established by NSA/BWSC to become a certified tournament
facility
NSA would only go to facilities for tournaments that were inspected and/or designed by BWSC
NSA would desire BWSC to conduct a site inspection on a prospective city’s complex prior to any
NSA selection made for tournament sites
Arrangement would be exclusive to BWSC. If ever this changed BWSC would be entitled to
residual fee
BWSC would review all post tournamentfacility evaluations
BWSC plays a significant role at National Conventions for NSA: Exhibiting , Conducting sessions
with NSA Tournament Directors and Umpires as to improvements desired in facilities
BWSC would be listed in NSA publicity material as the Preferred Designer with contact info given
2. Cities desiring national tournaments would receive more preference points if the facility was
certified by BWSC
Agreement to collaborate would be documented in an MOU or a legal and binding document of
some form
Additional Opportunities or Considerations:
BWSC National Youth Scholarships (Presently NSA provides academic scholarships to youth
players)
BWSC Complex of the Year Award for NSA. (Patterned perhaps after a program established by
an engineered soil company with ASA)
There are no known relationships presently existing between the various national governing
boards (NSA, ASA,USSSA,ISA,USFA)and a design and engineering company either through simple
sponsorship or a more involved partnership
What’s In It For NSA ? :
The following are possible benefits for NSA:
1) BWSC certified sites can ensure high NSA standards are met.
2) NSA would benefit by having another partner organization to help with the annual conferences
by exhibiting and perhaps doing a session on facility selection
3) If asked, NSA could be getting a financial sponsor
4) NSA could be recognizing their partner cities with a facility award. BWSC conducts a national
awards program for the NSA network of approved facilities.
5) BWSC could enhance their existing youth scholarship program for participating youth
6) NSA Can be assured if improvements are needed in city facilities where tournaments are
conducted that it will be done and followed up with by BWSC working with the city.
7) NSA could be awarded a “finders fee” of sorts for projects contracted with BWSC brought to
BWSC by NSA.
8) For projects brought to BWSC by NSA, a contribution could be made to the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation on behalf of NSA.
9) Others:
Tasks:
Set up an initial meeting with Hugh Cantrell to open up dialog
Secure copies of the evaluations presently being used by the softball organizations from the city
of Chattanooga
Identify an agenda for an informal meeting with the Cantrells
