Michael Condron – Sculptor
‘Biophilia’
.
The term ‘biophilia’ is the hypothesis that there is an instinctive bond
between human beings and the living systems that surround us.
Staff workshops inspired by the wildlife and woods surrounding the
hospital created the glass artworks set into the metalwork
9. ‘Aintree - One Tree’
This artwork touches on the history and the spirit of the area and draws
inspiration from Saxon jewellery and their love of intricate organic patterns.
The Artists, Ann Brierley & Rebecca Seabrook used an intricate design
process. From paper cut-outs to drawing and then metal cutting to create this
artwork. “One wall depicts spring, the other autumn, a constant cycle of
growth and re-birth”.

• During my time at PARTIA I have supported the Exhibition Co-ordinator and
been part of the exhibitions team.
• I have found this a very worthwhile experience and it has really helped to
develop both my verbal and written English and overall communication
skills.
• I feel I have been able to work well as both part of the team but also to
work and think independently.
• I haven’t specialised but have taken part in all aspects of the role constantly
working to tight deadlines.
30. Astra Halliday
Postgraduate Research Student at University of Liverpool
In 2013 I completed a 10 day work placement with PARTIA as part of my
Masters in Art, Aesthetics and Cultural Institutions. This work placement has
since developed into a full time PhD research project investigating the value of
public art when contextualised within a hospital context.
Working with PARTIA has allowed me to develop practical skills related to
public art display and the ability to negotiate between the needs and interests
of hospital users with the creative endeavours of PARTIA’s displaying artists. In
addition I have gained valuable experience in event organisation and
management, working to deadlines and creating promotional material for the
hospital’s exhibitions.
Being a member of PARTIA is a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy, fast-
paced environment. If you like working on several projects at once and having
the freedom to take an idea to completion then working with PARTIA is
definitely for you.
31. Boxiao Jia
• I decided to volunteer as an assistant Exhibition Co-ordinator one day a
week
• I am responsible for the current exhibited artworks and the development of
future exhibitions including the planning and execution of the Go East
exhibition from start to finish.
• I organised every aspect this exhibition from the callout to artists, planning
the timing, framing and hanging the pictures and organising publicity. I also
planned the Exhibition opening with performers taking part.
• Although apprehensive at the beginning I very much enjoyed this
experience and felt supported by the exhibition team.
• The arts programme is so big that I still had to carry Superlambananas and
Penguins around the hospital site and assist on other projects when they
were time critical.

• I thoroughly enjoyed my time at PARTIA, helping to
organise three events over the summer of 2013
• Whilst working at PARTIA I particularly enjoyed the
freedom and using my own initiative, which is valuable
experience and preparation for the real working world
• Learned the most during the event days
……………….as sometimes things do not go to plan!
33. Jane MacNeil
I joined PARTIA four months ago, I’m a community volunteer and
volunteer twice a week but occasionally for special projects come in
more.
So far I’ve been involved in the Bluebell Woods project, hanging art
exhibitions, helping plan and execute events, painting and moving
SLB’s and Penguins.
I use my photography skills to record ward activities and create an
photographic archive.
Best part ……Every day is different
As I’m very much out of comfort zone I have found it’s a safe place to
fail and to learn and all our successes are celebrated

2nd Year Dance Student Liverpool John Moores University
Entertainer and Performer - 4 Week Placement
I would describe my time at PARTIA as very challenging.
Having the dancer’s role you need to be confident within
yourself to be able to approach patients and perform to
them. I found that some patients do not always want to
join in with the dancing as they are unable to, so this is
where you need to be able to perform to them.
I feel that dance can be a very stimulating topic for
conversation, and most patients ended up talking and
describing their past to me. This included the dance
styles they used to do and how much they loved to
dance
