- 3. Management of the Self A case can be made that any personal success can be attributed to good management. I have a handful of personal achievements that I am quite proud of, and I would be nowhere without proper personal management. I did well academically in high school and got a high ACT score. I managed to go through all 10 years of 4-H. My greatest feat of self-management however is my getting accepted in the Ohio State University and soon I hope to graduate with a degree.
- 4. Management in Academics During my time at OSU I’ve found myself in many managerial type positions. For some reason, every group project that I take part in ends up with me being the “group manager” meaning that it falls to me to make sure everyone is on task to get the work done on time. Personally, I have no issue with this. It assures that I have control over the final outcome of the project and I even gain some useful managerial experience.
- 5. Managerial Experience at Work I have yet to have a true construction internship, but I have gained valuable management experience from my part time jobs and other internships. My ZenGenius internship I was constantly put on projects with little guidance, but I was expected to perform the task needed or make sure that it got done. At my valet job there is a seniority system, where if you work with another employee and you are more “senior” with the company then you are in a management position over them. This entails you to pick who gets what shift, who takes what cars, etc.
- 6. Management to Me Management experience can come from a whole host a different places and life experiences. Any one person has gained so much unintended management experience through life that it’s just a matter of finding the proper way to put it to use. I am really looking forward to my opportunity to apply myself and be a proper construction manager.
