2. What is the goal of this presentation?
The goal of this presentation is to show or give awareness to
the people about how to be safe and protected from harmful
pathogens and diseases and learn about the start of an
infection. This presentation will also discuss some of the
ways to do so and how a sick person can also help to prevent
the spread of diseases.
3. Stages of infection
Before we go to the prevention of diseases; we have
to know how does an infection start in the first
stages
4. Stages of infection
The Incubation period is when the pathogens has
gained entry to the body and starts to replicate itself.
It is also the stage in which the pathogens start to
invade the tissues and multiply which can make the
host infected.
5. Stages of infection
The Prodromal stage is the stage in which the early
signs and symptoms are present.
The patient may be infectious to other people in this
stage,
6. Stages of infection
The Illness stage is the stage in which the specific
signs and symptoms are present.
7. Stage of infections
The Convalescence stage is the stage in which the
symptoms start to disappear until the patient’s state
of health returns to normal.
8. Chain of infection
The chain of infection includes 6 links: infectious
agent, reservoirs, portal of exit, means of
transmission, portal of entry then susceptible host.
10. Chain of infection
Reservoirs
This the place where the pathogen can survive, multiply and grow. Below
are some examples of reservoirs for pathogens.
Environment,
water supply,
Hospital settings
and living
organisms
11. Chain of infection
Portal of Exit
This is the place where the microorganisms leave or escape their hosts and
enter another host to cause a disease or infection. Below are some ways the
microorganisms may leave the host:
12. Chain of infection
Means of Transmission
There are 4 means of transmissions:
Contact with
infected
person
Water-borne and food -borne
Airborne
Vector-borne
13. Chain of infection
Portal of entry
Is the site where micro-organisms enter the susceptible host and cause an
infection. Below are some examples for portal of entry:
The
nose
Cut
in the
skin
Insect
bites
The
mouth
14. Chain of infection
Susceptible Host
The susceptible host is the most common vulnerable
hosts which can either be a very young, old and
immune suppressed host.
15. Ways and tips in preventing infections
Now that the stages of infection and chain of infection has been discussed;
we can proceed to a few tips and ways in preventing diseases and infections.
As the saying goes ‘’prevention is better than cure’’, which means it is better
to stop something in the first place than to repair the damage after it has
happened. We have to know and learn how a healthy individual like us can
prevent infections so that we could save money for a medicine and we could
help others be safe and healthy too. It would already be too late if the
diagnosed disease is a deadly one. Here are a few guides and tips:
16. Ways and tips in preventing infections
1. Educate yourself and others
If you want to prevent an infection, it is better to have
knowledge about the transmission of infections and how one
can infect you and others.
17. Ways and tips in preventing infections
2. Clean the environment and your surroundings
Cleaning your environment and surroundings is important
because a clean environment will not attract pests, rodents,
insects, and other organisms that may carry a disease.
18. Ways and tips in preventing infections
3. Practice good personal hygiene
Being clean and odourless will keep you healthy by removing
the germs and bacteria that stay in your body just like washing
your hands.
19. Ways and tips in preventing infections
4. Live a healthy lifestyle
Having a healthy lifestyle can keep your body functioning
normally and can make your body strong even when you grow
older and this includes having a balanced diet, exercising
regularly and etc.
20. Ways and tips in preventing infections
5. Have a regular check-up with a doctor
A regular check-up with a doctor can notify you about your
health state and your body and you may know some advises
from the doctor whether if you are sick or not in order to
prevent an infection. A doctor may also prescribe you a
medication if you are sick.
21. Ways and tips in preventing infections
6. Wear personal protective equipment
Wearing your personal protective equipment like
gloves, masks, and others can help you and everybody
from transmitting diseases or infections to one
another.
22. Ways and tips in preventing infections
7. Spread social awareness
Now in the 21st century, devices are already made to make
communication easier. Use these devices such as your phones
to tell people about some ways and tips to prevent infections
so that people will already have a knowledge about what to do.
23. Ways and tips in preventing infections
8. Stay at home and take a rest
If you are sick; you may not perform well. Stay at home and
take a rest in order for your body to return to normal fast and
to prevent spreading the infection to other people in public
places.
24. Conclusion
As this presentation is about to end, it should end in a conclusion. For the
conclusion, it is better to stay safe and healthy from diseases or infections
or else it would be a burden for you if you have to work or study.
A knowledge about how infections work and how you can prevent them
helps you
and me be safe and healthy and will make you a helpful member of the
society even
just by spreading social awareness.
Just remember that prevention is better than cure and once you know
how to apply this phrase in your life; you’re pretty much safe and secured.
THANK YOU
