Project management is a very wide area of work, particularly in business. It covers many different topics which can be broken into even smaller particles. Work of a project manager is not only about giving people orders and telling them what to do. Many people limit their work of a project manager to supervising their employees and making sure everyone meets their deadline. But a good project manager knows it’s more than that.
Resource allocation in project management is one of those particles which make work of a good PM effective and significant. And even though it may seem simple, it is actually crucial in delivering a great project.
Resource allocation in project management is concerned with creating a plan which can help achieve future goals. There are many resources which have to be allocated when managing a project, beginning from budget to equipment and tools, to data and the project’s plan.
How To Allocate Resources
Resource allocation in project management is so important because it gives a clear picture on the amount of work that has to be done. It also helps to schedule ahead and have an insight into the team’s progress, including allocating the right amount of time to everyone on the team.
Resource allocation allows to plan and prepare for the project’s implementation or achieving goals. It is also possible to analyze existing threats and risks to the project.
But above all, resource allocation in project management helps to control all the workload. This, as a result, contributes to team’s effectiveness at work and what follows later is a satisfying and exhaustive project.
A project manager supervises the planning and implementation of various activities in a business setting a project manager usually leads a team of employees and assists with setting goals, time limits and developing work flow charts and project plans. An individual in this arrangement should have both management and people skills as well as superior written and verbal communication skills.

There are a number of things to consider when deciding what level of maturity to aim for.
Why are you wanting to increase your level of maturity in this space?
-Some might be wanting to do it simply as a continuous improvement strategy.
Some may be having issues with the performance of their program and project delivery or portfolio investment returns
Others may need it to be competitive in a market that looks at the P3M3 levels of organisations in the tendering process
Others may be required to undergo a mandatory audit – as did the Qld Govt in 2012.
One organisation that I have spoken with has noted that their environment has become increasingly fiscally constrained and as such funding is much more competitive. They want to increase certain sections of their maturity, specifically relating to benefits management, business case and blueprint development – so that they can be more competitive in seeking funding for initiatives. So in this case they are not necessarily trying to improve their maturity as a whole, but an aspect of it. In doing this however, it is likely that they will have an increase in maturity in other areas as well.
We need to know where you are now to assist in deciding where you want to go. This is where going through an assessment is essential and I do believe in this being independent. You can self assess but this will always be impacted with bias. You need to baseline.
What are you working with? What is your organisational context? What resources do you have both budget and people? Do you have authentic sponsorship or are your leaders just ticking a mandate off? What’s your organisational culture like, are they open to P3 management or are they likely to see effort to increase maturity as unnecessary overhead?
So when we went through this process we were fortunate to have an authentic sponsor, we had a culture of project and program delivery so the staff understood the value of the practice (and I do say practice rather than methodology – as if you have experienced practitioners, they will argue methodology with you – this is a good thing!). We.

Introduction
You have probably been part of an organization or team activity that did not appear to have
direction, purpose, or goals. This kind of experience sometimes produces frustration, espe-
cially in organizations that are supposed to have a purpose, simply because people want to
know that they are part of something larger than themselves and that they can make a dif-
ference. Sometimes organizations have goals, but it seems like only top management knows
what they are. This chapter will explore the value of having organizational and project goals
and sharing them with the people charged with realizing them.
This chapter follows up on earlier chapters that dealt with the field of project management,
project phases in the cycle, and organizational design. The chapter will address how projects
are started, how they are aligned with the organization’s goals, and how individual project
goals and objectives are set to serve customers.
Once a project is selected and initiated in phase 1, phase 2 involves defining the project in a
project plan and preparing the project framework for execution. The next five chapters will
