Asperger Syndrome is a developmental disorder first identified by Hans Asperger in 1944. It is characterized by difficulties with social and communication skills. While those with Asperger's have average or above average intelligence, the disorder affects areas of the brain involved with social behaviors and communication. Asperger's is considered a high functioning form of autism. In schools, students with Asperger's often have difficulty with peer relationships, transitions, and interpreting nonliteral language. Teachers are encouraged to use visual schedules, minimize distractions, provide social supports, and clearly explain expectations to help students with Asperger's succeed in inclusive classrooms.

This document discusses several research studies and their relationship to policymaking in different areas such as education, health, and economics. It finds that research often has an indirect and gradual influence on policy and may help achieve objectives but cannot determine objectives which involve value judgments.
