Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Progetto archivio omaggio al Prof.Antonino Fodale Preside della Nicola Festa negli anni '40 classe 3^B a.s. 2007-2008
1. Questo lavoro è un omaggio
all’altruismo mostrato dalla
Professoressa Maria Fodale,
per la donazione fatta alla nostra
Scuola in memoria di suo padre,
il Prof. Antonino, Preside della
“Nicola Festa” negli anni ’40.
3. La ricerca sull’archivio della scuola
Le fonti usate sono
state i documenti
più antichi
conservati nella
nostra scuola
ha avuto come obiettivo lo
studio della storia del territorio
4. Si prospettava per noi una nuova
avventura … nei meandri della conoscenza
che spesso,
proprio come
guidate
dall’istinto di che ora vi presentiamo,
sopravvivenza,
ci portano
dove non ci identificheremo in
avremmo mai una talpa che "scava"
pensato di
nel passato per
arrivare.
comprendere il presente
5. BUONA SERA SONO UNA TALPA CHE ABITA SOTTO LA
SCUOLA
GRAZIE ALLA
POSIZIONE
DELLA MIA
DIMORA
SONO
RIUSCITA AD
IMPARARE A
LEGGERE E A
SCRIVERE
UN GIORNO,
MENTRE SCAVAVO
LE MIE GALLERIE,
SBUCAI PROPRIO IN
QUESTA SCUOLA…
6. Spesso il sapere si nasconde dietro pochi
centimetri di buio.
In questo caso, questi
pochi centimetri erano
di terra, qualche piano
sotto il livello stradale;
così ci siamo ritrovati in
un mare inesplorato in
cui sarebbe stato
improbabile rimanere a
galla:
“ la conoscenza”
incuriosire
All’inizio di quest’anno
scolastico, quando
l’insegnante ci ha
proposto una ricerca
sull’archivio della scuola,
siamo rimasti perplessi:
cosa potevamo trovare di
interessante tra tante
scartoffie impolverate?
Ma quando siamo scesi
nell’archivio e abbiamo
iniziato a vedere dei
vecchi registroni in
cartone telato, oggi non
più in uso, la curiosità ci
ha spinti a fare le prime
domande.
9.
10. 2^ tappa del metodo
Lettura e analisi dei primi documenti
antichi: le domande d’iscrizione degli anni
‘40
11. Le fonti materiali, utili per
ricostruire la memoria
storica di questa scuola,
sono state le domande di
iscrizione e i registri degli
alunni che l’hanno
frequentata negli anni ’40.
nostra ricerca storica sull’archivio.
14. Primi registri
Abbiamo identificato i primi
raccoglitori dai numeri riportati
sulla copertina, che indicavano
le cartelle in esso contenute.
i raccoglitori con i numeri più
bassi, erano chiaramente i più antichi.
16. Abbiamo riordinato le informazioni
contenute in ogni cartella riportando
su nuove schede i seguenti dati:
Numero d’immatricolazione
Sesso
Anno d’iscrizione
Professione del padre
Eventuali documenti come foto
e tessere G.I.L.

• Per trovare una
risposta ai tanti
interrogativi, siamo
andati a studiare la
riforma della
scuola di quegli
anni.
fascisti, infliggendo 42 condanne a morte, tre
formazione personale,
ma allo stesso tempo da
riservare "ai migliori per
intelletto e per censo", come
affermava egli stesso. I ceti più
poveri, invece, erano destinati
ad una scuola di avviamento al
lavoro.
Riguardo ai docenti, egli
riteneva che dovessero essere
l'immagine della potenza dello
stato, perciò favorì l'accesso a
questa professione ai maschi, i
quali dovevano essere dotati
spiritualmente e fisicamente di
una disciplina quasi militare.
Importanti cambiamenti,
inoltre, furono introdotti
rispetto alla vecchia legge
Casati, risalente addirittura al
1859. Gentile previde
l’estensione dell’obbligo
scolastico a 14 anni: la scuola
media preparava agli studi
classici ed era denominata R.
Liceo Ginnasio.
36. G.I.L.
Oltre che alla scuola, i ragazzi
dovevano iscriversi alla GIL
“Gioventù italiana del Littorio”
un’organizzazione fondata da
Mussolini per educare i giovani al
pensiero fascista e alla vita
militare.
Tutti gli iscritti ricevevano una
tessera di appartenenza (dove era
raffigurato il Duce) che andava
consegnata alla scuola.
La GIL accoglieva i giovani dai 6
ai 21 anni e li divideva per sesso

all’analisi
della scheda
d’iscrizione
di quegli anni
49. Dall’analisi delle
schede di iscrizione
abbiamo estrapolato
le seguenti notizie
sulla condizione
sociale delle
famiglie…
Ci siamo soffermati a
considerare le
professioni di quegli
anni per conoscere il
tipo di economia della
nostra città.
51. A Matera il domicilio dei cittadini indicava
l’appartenenza ad una classe sociale…
Intorno agli anni quaranta,
situate in periferia, erano coltivate dai contadini.
63. RAGAZZI APPRENDISTI

68. IL FORNACIAIO
Gli oggetti che anticamente venivano
usati in cucina erano prodotti dai
fornaciai artigianalmente:
fabbricavano piatti e pentole in
terracotta.
l'argilla veniva cavata dai calanchi o
dai bacini lacustri delle nostre zone.

70. IL CONTADINO
Un lavoro molto comune in quegli anni e oggi quasi
scomparso, era quello del contadino.
Matera, infatti, negli anni ’40 aveva un’economia
prevalentemente agricola.
oggetti utili nell’attività agricola e pastorale.

mestiere…
il sellaio preparava in
modo artigianale e
professionale finimenti
per cavalli, ma
sopratutto basti per asini
e muli. I materiali usati
erano il legno, il cuoio e
la paglia.

Qualcuno..... in futuro avrebbe scoperto
