Last Tuesday we launched the Licensee Knowledge Base – a one-stop shop with information and resources for real estate professionals on agency and disclosure rules coming into effect on June 15, 2018.
About the Knowledge Base
The Knowledge Base is host to a library of articles, guides, FAQs and video and audio content designed to help licensees understand and comply with the changes to agency and disclosure rules.
It is also fully compatible with mobile devices, making it easy to navigate on a wide range of web browsers and portable devices, so you can find answers to your questions easily, no matter what device you’re using.
We’ve also posted the four new mandatory disclosure forms on the knowledge base – along with guides for their use.
These disclosure forms are being made available in advance of the effective date of the Rules for informational purposes only and are marked “Not in Effect”.
look/feel of this site is also along the lines of where we want to go with the corporate site and that we have plans for a website refresh later in the fiscal year.
Initial uptake of videos, webinars and podcasts from the Council has been encouraging, with viewership numbers varying from 3.7 thousand to approximately 800 views of the recent managing broker podcast – which was offered in two sessions in late April and attracted over 150 managing brokers at each live session. A May webinar is scheduled for next week, focusing on the new forms and answering questions from managing brokers about the forms.
Further videos are currently in production to support licensees to use the new forms appropriately, and a further series of videos for consumers is an integral part of the planned consumer education campaign
Expanding the Knowledge Base
We will continue to expand the Knowledge Base to deliver relevant, practical information that helps licensees meet their regulatory requirements. We will continue to communicate regularly through our weekly Real Advice e-news and Report from Council.
We are encouraging licensees to visit and explore the Knowledge Base to discover the information they need in order to stay current with changes.
objective is to develop a province-wide consumer awareness building campaign that reaches real estate consumers to increase their knowledge about the services to expect from a real estate professional, the consumer protections provided by the Real Estate Council of BC, and new rules in place for real estate licensees intended to protect consumers.
The first phase -- to inform real estate consumers about the new conduct requirements for real estate
licensees – is expected to take place between June and November 2018.
The second phase – which will focus on building broader awareness – will begin in November 2018 and continue to March 31, 2020.
initial key messages and desired outcomes were established as a result of preliminary work with Bridge Communications. we have committed to undertake more consumer survey work as part of the Service Plan, which will give us insight into the impact of the consumer campaign and allow us to adjust messaging / tactics accordingly
.
Resources for Managing Brokers
The Knowledge Base includes a section addressing the information needs of managing brokers, called the ‘Managing Broker Toolkit’. This includes information about records management, preparing licensees for change, and links to the Professional Matters webinar series for Managing Brokers. It also contains articles on obtaining informed consent, referral fees and best practices for avoiding conflicts of interest.
