A real-world example of a firm that has encountered problems within their supply chain

schedule creep, etc.) 2) an overview of the issue at hand 3) how the problems were
remedied.
1. The public awareness to health as it relates to dietary choices continue to surge
through the fast food industry. A few years ago, major restaurant chains like Panera and
Chipotle have revolutionized this industry by providing transparency, or at least much
more than the Burger King’s, McDonald’s, or Taco Bell’s have. Although the once-surging
Chipotle has seen recent drops in sales due to E. Coli outbreaks, their mission and vision
remain unchanged as new locations project to open and corporate figureheads continue
to assure the public that the massive mistake was just that, a mistake. But what
McDonald’s has recently stated provide a glimmer of hope for those seeking to remain
loyal. The one area of benefit for companies such as McDonald’s is the global presence
and ability to cater to those particular locations. However, McDonald’s has recognized the
need to adapt to the demand for more transparency. McDonald’s has recently claimed to
be under a “brand evolution” with labeling their Happy Meals. Here the company provides
parents with crucial information as related to such ingredients as salt, which has seen a
47.4% decrease in salt since 2003. To say this an improvement would be spot on.
Unfortunately, one may argue this still isn’t “good enough.” Additionally, McDonald’s has
gone as far as to give out fitness trackers with the popular kids meals, only to be removed
due to complaints of skin irritation. As we continue down the road to “healthier”
alternatives, we will continue to see the fast food industry attempt to modify business in
2. hopes of retaining the loyal customer base that made them famous to begin. From a
personal standpoint, we are long away from providing truly healthy fast food.

2. 2. The real world example of a firm that has encountered supply chain
problems, is McDonald s. The fast food industry has made a dramatic move to
supply chain transparency. McDonald’s was being hit because people wanted
to know what was in their chick nuggets and were their beef patties made of
real meat? According to New (2015) McDonald’s was competing with fast
food companies like Panera and Chipotle that provide a transparent look into
their supply chain and had an image of freshness that they didn’t have.
Consumers are looking for fresh food without chemicals that fast food
restaurants have put into foods. People want to know what is going in their
bodies and want healthier chooses. Since then they have fixed their supply
chain transparency with video of where their ingredients are sourced from
(New, 2015). Also, McDonalds has tried to create a new image of freshness
and health with new menu items like Egg White Deluxe, Apple Slices and
Artisan Sandwiches (Strom, 2015).
