The document discusses the use of robots in manufacturing organizations like DaimlerChrysler. It states that DaimlerChrysler uses around 9000 robots in its Mercedes plant and 5000 in its Chrysler plant to help with tasks like spot welding. The robots used are lighter in weight, which allows more robots to fit on the production line and enables some to weld in difficult positions like upside down. According to DaimlerChrysler, having more robots in the production area increases productivity.
Location is an important factor for businesses and can account for up to 25% of product costs. The optimal location depends on the type of business, whether it is manufacturing, retail, or warehousing. When deciding on a location, companies evaluate both tangible costs like labor, utilities, and taxes, as well as intangible costs around quality of life factors and availability of skills. BMW chose to locate a plant in the US over Germany based on a lower cost of labor, fewer holidays reducing downtime, and lower shipping costs for the North American market.
Plus Technologies designs print software solutions to streamline and improve productivity in logistics, manufacturing and distribution environments. In order to better maximize efficiencies, organizations must be able to reliably print pick tickets, invoices, labels, bills of lading and other documents. In many cases, documents must be combined or re-ordered for inclusion in a shipment. Documents should not be duplicated or missed.
Assured printing allows you to find and fix problems in your printer network with ease. Learn how print confirmation solutions from Plus Technologies can benefit your business with this presentation.
The document discusses different types of business operating costs including fixed costs, variable costs, and semi-variable costs. It defines fixed costs as stable costs that do not change with production levels. Variable costs fluctuate depending on production levels and directly impact a company's profits. Semi-variable costs contain both fixed and variable components, such as raw material costs that depend on product demand. The document also addresses how to calculate operating costs through formulas and concludes with an overview of how cost analysis informs economic decision making for engineering systems.
This document discusses external economies of scale, which occur when per unit costs fall for a firm due to factors outside of the firm's control but within an industry. These external factors can include investment in infrastructure, availability of skilled labor, banking and telecommunication facilities, and other industry-wide improvements. As more firms in an industry benefit from these shared external factors, the per unit costs for each individual firm will fall as well, leading to external economies of scale across the industry.

HIV can be transmitted through unprotected sex, sharing needles, or from mother to child during birth. It was likely first transmitted to humans from chimpanzees in West Africa when humans hunted them for meat. While HIV may not show symptoms for years, it eventually weakens the immune system and leads to AIDS if not treated. There is no cure for HIV, but antiretroviral therapy can suppress the virus and prolong life. Always using protection and getting tested regularly is important since HIV can be difficult to diagnose in early stages.

The number of print servers in an organization tend to grow organically. They grow for many reasons including: geographic distribution of sites, multiple business application/suites or operating system environments, organizational structure, and limitations on scalability. In addition, application servers often are defacto print servers whether they print directly to printers or another print server. However, these print servers cost money to acquire, maintain, and administer. When there are more print servers than necessary these costs can be significant.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

"Scaling RAG Applications to serve millions of users", Kevin GoedeckeFwdays
How we managed to grow and scale a RAG application from zero to thousands of users in 7 months. Lessons from technical challenges around managing high load for LLMs, RAGs and Vector databases.
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.
