The student created a podcast interviewing their friend who plays basketball about his dreams of making it to the NBA finals. The podcast aimed to inspire the student's target audience of people from Eastern cultures interested in sports. Key strengths included interviewing someone personally invested in the topic who provided clear audio responses. Areas for improvement included adding background music and making question delivery more engaging.
The podcast uses mysterious music at the start to set the tone that it will be a mystery story. The narrator discusses the case of a man in prison for murder as she tries to determine the truth through interviews and facts. The music and tone change based on the content, with slower music when discussing the death and upbeat music when presenting new evidence. Though some phone call audio quality is poor, it implies the story is true. The overall mood is one of tension as the narrator seeks the truth through interviews that may or may not be helpful. Distinctive theme songs are used to create brand identity.
This document summarizes scenes from the show "Call the Midwife" through descriptions of the music used and interactions between characters. Non-diegetic music is used to set relaxing or joyful moods during intimate scenes or childbirth. Background noises also provide context about the time period and settings, from transport sounds to children playing outside to represent the community. The music and sounds help tell the story and represent the classes of the different characters.
The document outlines the pre-production process for recording a podcast. It details the equipment needed - a microphone, headphones, and Logic editing software. It provides a recording schedule from 9:20-10:20am on June 22nd to record the podcast, then editing it in Logic until lunch. It also describes health and safety precautions for using the equipment and booking the equipment for the scheduled date and time. Finally, it includes an example script for the podcast interview and notes about checking sound levels and avoiding copyright issues.
1) Mono recording uses a single channel and microphone to record sound, which is played back through one speaker. This results in smaller file sizes but lacks stereo sound.
2) Stereo recording uses two channels to create a mirrored sound representation played back through two speakers. This allows for sound perspective and location.
3) Audio editing software like Logic and Audacity can be used to clean up recordings by removing unwanted noise and adding effects. A fixed or detached microphone can improve sound quality depending on the recording situation.
In the beginning, contrasting black and white pictures establish the time period. A signature tune plays to identify the show.
One scene uses music to represent a couple's love as they get intimate. A cockney woman discusses losing a baby with a midwife, making viewers feel sad.
In the next scene, the cockney couple runs for a train while laughing, setting a lighthearted mood. The elegant pregnant woman is seen being played violin for by her husband, seen as high class at the time.
Various ambient sounds are heard, like trains and dogs. Upbeat music plays when a midwife is due to give birth, creating excitement. More happy instrumental music plays during a joyful birth
The document provides steps for creating an article to inspire young people in East London to get into grime music. It describes choosing landscape orientation for the magazine-style article, taking photos of music equipment to illustrate what is needed to start in grime music, and designing the headings in Photoshop with overlays and effects to make them eye-catching for youth readers.
The document provides steps for creating an article to inspire young people in East London to get into grime music. It describes choosing landscape orientation for the magazine-style article to fit more pictures. Photos were taken of music equipment to illustrate what is needed to start in grime music. Headings and subheadings were designed in Photoshop with overlays and effects to make them eye-catching for youth readers.
This document summarizes and provides context about the grime music genre that originated in London, England. It outlines some of grime's earliest influential artists like Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, and Skepta. The genre is seeing renewed interest internationally in 2015, possibly due to collaborations between grime artists and mainstream American rappers like Kanye West and Drake. The document then provides a brief 10-track list of some of grime's definitive songs to help introduce new listeners to the genre's sound and style.
The document describes three photos taken in a garden. For each photo, it provides the shutter speed, aperture settings, and file size. The photos were close-ups of flowers with direct sunlight, requiring a high aperture and increased exposure. The document also includes a definition of copyright as the exclusive legal right given to creators to distribute their work for a fixed period of time.
The student created a magazine and chose exterior photos of colorful flowers for the cover because they stood out the most from the shots taken. A close-up photo of yellowish flowers was used as the background for the cover to attract the audience with its vibrant colors. The photo was taken from a distance using the camera's zoom function and natural sunlight, capturing the flowers' natural beauty.
My idea is to create a magazine featuring close-up photographs of flowers from my garden using my Canon camera. The target audience is people who enjoy beautiful flowers of any age. I will take test shots outdoors to practice capturing the flowers at their best before publishing pictures in the simple, easy to view magazine layout. Resources needed, such as the flowers and camera equipment, are already owned so no bookings are required. Risks like rain, bugs, and tripping must be managed for safe, high quality photo shoots.
The document describes a music studio located in LSC in east London. The studio was chosen as the topic of the document because it is located in the east, matching the theme. The studio contains various musical instruments and equipment used to create music.
This document discusses various photographic techniques including framing shots with close-ups, landscapes, and portraits, adjusting camera angles with high, low, and canted shots, setting camera levels as high or low, focusing shots with depth of field as sharp or soft, and using digital, optical, or analogue zooms.
This document assesses potential hazards during a film shoot and assigns a risk level of low, moderate, high, or extreme. It identifies hazards such as getting hit by a car while filming, tripping over equipment, equipment being damaged in the rain without proper precautions, tripping over camera wires, and risks from dancing without awareness of surroundings. Prevention methods are provided such as scheduling shoots away from traffic, clearing pathways, checking the weather, managing cables, and remaining attentive while dancing.
This document discusses why different media use visuals such as images on their covers or pages. E-newspapers and e-magazines include images to visually depict stories for readers. CD covers feature images that represent the music genre and context. DVD covers contain pictures of main characters and scenes to indicate the film's content. Book covers display images that relate to the genre and plot. Instruction manuals incorporate photographs so users can easily understand processes by seeing examples.
Digital images are used for various purposes such as enhancing publications, marketing products, and promoting events. Photographers must take eye-catching and informative images to serve these purposes. Digital images can raise awareness of sports events by capturing memorable moments and gold medal winners. They are also used in photojournalism to tell stories about news and events. Photographers make their work available online as many are self-employed. Digital images on CD and game covers can increase sales by attracting attention.
The document discusses magazine covers and billboard advertisements. For magazine covers, photographers must shoot celebrity covers and ensure proper mise en scene, lighting, setting and costumes. Covers also use shorthand communication and bright colors to attract young audiences. The text is spread out across the page for easy reading. Billboards also use photographers to capture the main target. Mise en scene includes props like pizza, and makeup is used to make faces stand out against costumes like black outfits. Billboard text is laid out and bold to stand out from the photography.
This mood board features grime artists from east London that will be discussed in an article about the music of the east and how youth connect to these artists. The selected artists are the most recognizable that the writer listens to regularly and are from the east as well. The article will cover the artists' backgrounds and how they link to east culture, presented in the style of a magazine.

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.
