This presentation discusses the impacts of rising feed ingredient prices on aquaculture production. Feed costs account for 50% of aquaculture production costs. Increasing fuel costs, demand for ingredients as human food, climate change impacts, and dependence on fish meal and fish oil are causing feed ingredient prices to rise. Rising prices force farmers to seek alternative ingredients that can lower feed quality and increase costs, potentially causing disease in farmed fish and humans. Solutions proposed include reducing anti-nutritional factors in plant-based feed materials.
