Prevent Human Trafficking is a non-profit organization working to end human trafficking in Southeast Asia and the United States. It empowers individuals and organizations through support and technical assistance. It also raises awareness of trafficking through education programs. It partners with organizations like Pattay Home for Street Children in Thailand to provide shelter and support for victims.

Mission of Prevent Human Trafficking Prevent Human Trafficking (PHT) is a Washington, D.C., based non-profit organization working to build a bridge between South East Asia and the United States to prevent human trafficking. PHT empowers individuals, organizations and governments to tackle the root causes of human trafficking through direct support and technical assistance. PHT uses its expertise and networks to promote best practice and inspire sustainable solutions in the movement to prevent human trafficking.

4. Inputs Sponsored by American University to facilitate an office center for PHT Funded through sponsors such as the GE foundation and the Grantsmanship Center. Receives Donations to help run the organization Need for volunteers and caregivers Partnering with Pattay Home for Street Children, raising $200,000 to build a new orphanages and shelters for children living in the streets of Pattaya, Thailand who are easily targeted for human trafficking. Partnered with Mae Sarieng Peace Scholarship in Thailand, to fund education for underprivileged women and children in the provinces in Thailand. Need for social workers to be implementing human trafficking policies and initiatives. Fund for awareness programs that educate the existence of trafficking.

5. Process The programs staff are qualified members that conduct research, advocate against human trafficking, and are involved in many awareness programs in a coalition to fight against human slavery locally, nationally, and internationally . Educates people through our summer program at American University led by governmental leaders, foundation leaders, and activist. Thoroughly explicating the reasons why human trafficking exists all over the world and why they are threats to human society. Partnering with groups such as Patay Home for Street Children in Thailand, shelters are being built to provide homes for victims. Partnering with The Mae Sarieng Peace Scholarship, engages in helping the underprivileged communities educational system. Provide women all over local communities with vocational jobs such as the Women’s Silk Weaving Group, to be able to make a living in their own community and be apart of trafficking prevention.

6. Outputs The Pattay Home for Street Children in Thailand currently houses up to 30 children and has sheltered hundreds of children before, providing opportunities and benefits for victims. Through supporting The Mae Sarieng Peace Scholarship in Thailand, 70 scholarships has been awarded to students who were unable to pay for their education, thus preventing them to be trafficked into slavery. Thousands of lives have been saved because of their partnership with Fight Against Child Exploitation on their endeavor to fight for justice for women and children who are most vulnerable in the world.

8. The Pattaya Home for Street Children The orphanage in Pattaya, Thailand, funded by Prevent Human Trafficking. Led by Khun-Ja who is selflessly reaching out to children who are suffering from human trafficking and extreme poverty.

9. Community Need in Thailand According to the International Labor Organization, trafficking is the leading economic boom in Thailand worth $12 billion. Inadequate funded law enforcements and unsecured visa regulations allows sex trade and trafficking to be easily accessed. 70% out of 800 families sell their children into sex trafficking to bring in income for the families well being. 10. Community Need in United States Many local motel’s such as National Lodge Motel in Oakland, California have been found to host pimps and do nothing about it. Pimps are everywhere in schools, neighborhoods, and public places and are hard to detect because they look like regular guys easily luring young girls by building relationships or seducing tactics. Young women who are discovered by authorities are often criminalized rather than being helped. Many young adults and children are not aware of the existence of sex-trafficking in their very own neighborhoods. They need to be educated and aware of the matter. 11. PHT and Just Think PHT We want to bring further ones knowledge through education and awareness of human trafficking through networking via internet. We seek to sponsor children who are underprivileged to further their education in pursuit to prevent trafficking. We seek to implement human trafficking policies and initiatives to protect victims and those who are vulnerable. JUST THINK To get information out and to further one’s knowledge. To bring education to people who are underprivileged. Values to change policies that will further quality of life.

12. How is Critical Thinking related? We seek to develop a rich & extensive knowledge in the current problems in human trafficking and how it has changed over the years through research and studies. We are an organization that seeks to find radical different solutions targeting the political, social, and economic problems surrounding Thailand in implementing policies in which will ensure human rights and equality. We seek to maximize our chances of good outcomes , thinking of ways to help and save the lives of victims.

13. How is Critical Reading related? Through extensive research in human trafficking we seek to read acknowledging the society and culture in which our organization is focused on Such as Thailand where poverty is high and many women and children are underprivileged. To always ask questions while researching in regards to ending human slavery. We continuously ask what can we do, and how can we help stop this inhumanity.

14. How is Critical Action related? We seek to take informed action in the fight to human slavery by Seeking to create a moratorium in human slavery by implementing policies that provide human rights educating the general public To provide shelters for victims Sponsoring free education for underprivileged children To look for innovative ways in creating sustainable jobs for victims and families in areas that are most vulnerable in human trafficking.

16. How to get involved Internship: We accept up to ten interns each semester and summer with educational background in human rights and public service. Requires an attendance and participation in human trafficking-related hearings and conferences in Washington DC, and career opportunities focused on human trafficking.

Personal Connection I chose Prevent Human Trafficking because this past summer I spent my time in the rural villages in KamPom Thom, Cambodia seeing first hand the effects and damages human trafficking does to the lives of everyone in the country. I saw the need and support for the victims of this prevalent and cruel industry. The values of this organization such as raising awareness, and critically thinking of ways to curtail this inhumanity is something I truly believe and is a real need for a global response.
