1. Good Evening Raiders,
To quote the Wright State University Diversity Statement, “Respect, tolerance, and
goodwill are the keystones to enjoying the diversity of our world. We are all linked to each other
in a world created for all of us to share and enjoy. Each member of humanity has a potential
contribution to make to the whole. It is our duty to encourage and promote that contribution.”
On January 27, 2017, President Trump signed an executive order limiting the
immigration of persons from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. It is important
to recognize the stress this puts on many of our fellow Raiders, particularly during the initial
days of its implementation. We stand in solidarity with the numerous Wright State students,
alumni, faculty, and community members who are directly affected by this.
If you have questions or concerns about how the executive order will affect you, please
contact our University Center for International Education at askucie@wright.edu. There are
qualified professionals working diligently to ensure our community has the resources that they
need. Additionally, the Student Government Association offers our support to those impacted by
this order. We are at your disposal to work with the University Administration to ensure minimal
effects on your academic and career goals.
I would like to reiterate the values of Wright State University in these hard times. “We
will achieve an environment in which every student may think, learn, and grow without
prejudice, without intimidation, and without discrimination.” In the coming weeks I encourage
our students, faculty, and staff members to offer their support to our Raiders who have been
affected by this order. We will continue to foster an inclusive environment for the purposes of
intellectual growth based on the principles this university has been founded upon. Wright State
University is made stronger by the inclusion of our international community.
