ACSW Organizational Role
ACSW - “Under the Health Professions Act, the
role of a regulatory college is to carry out its
activities and govern its regulated members in a
manner that protects and serves the public
interest”.
CASW Organizational Role
The CASW Board of Directors determines and oversees
general and financial policies. With each
provincial/territorial member organization appointing one
member to the Board, a unified voice for the Canadian
social work profession is assured. The Board of Directors
works from a national and, indeed, an international
perspective to benefit the social work profession.
Both CASW and ACSW have the same Code of Ethics. The standards of practice was
built from the Code of Ethics
Round One
Health Professions Act and CASW Definition of
a Social Worker.
Round Two
Amount of Fees Paid and Size of Population
My Thoughts
After looking at both sides of the situation, from my
point of view, I believe that the actions of the ACSW to
severe ties with the CASW were warranted. The
amount of fees that were paid each year by ACSW to
CASW were quite substantial given the fact that it was
also revealed diploma social workers were not
recognized by CASW. “The activities pursued by the
CASW had diminished to the point that virtually none
of the historical advocacy and membership activities
no longer existed”
Applying the Ethical Lens
Explain it in theoretical terms
