The digital divide refers to inequalities in access to and use of information and communication technologies. Factors that contribute to the digital divide include poverty, gender, age, and social class. One program aiming to close the digital divide is One Laptop per Child, which provides each child with a low-cost, durable laptop to support collaborative and self-directed learning. The goal is for children to use the laptops to engage in their own education, connect with others, and gain access to opportunities that could lead to a brighter future.
