What is Knowledge?
The data is collection of facts.
The information is organized as data and facts about the
task domain. Data, information, and past experience
combined together are termed as knowledge.
Knowledge representation
It is the method used to organize and formalize the knowledge
in the knowledge base. It is in the form of IF-THEN-ELSE
rules.
Humans are
best at understanding, reasoning, and interpreting knowledge.
But how machines do all these things comes under knowledge
representation and reasoning.
Hence we can describe Knowledge representation as following:
 Knowledge representation is not just storing data into some
database, but it also enables an intelligent machine to learn
from that knowledge and experiences so that it can behave
intelligently like a human.
Requirements for knowledge Representation system:
1. Representational Accuracy:
KR system should have the ability to represent all kind of required
knowledge.
2. Inferential Adequacy:
KR system should have ability to manipulate the representational
structures to produce new knowledge corresponding to existing
structure.
3. Inferential Efficiency:
The ability to direct the inferential knowledge mechanism into the
most productive directions by storing appropriate guides.
4. Acquisitional efficiency-
The ability to acquire the new knowledge easily using automatic
methods.
Application KBS
Design Domain
Camera lens design
Types of DSLR Lenses
• Standard Lenses
• Kit Lenses
• Prime Lenses
• Telephoto Zoom Lenses
• Macro Lenses
Medical Domain
Diagnosis Systems to deduce cause of disease from observed data, conduction
medical operations on humans.
• Gathering of data through patient interviews and tests
• Processing and analysing results
• Using multiple sources of data to come to an accurate diagnosis
• Determining an appropriate treatment method (often presenting options)
• Preparing and administering the chosen treatment method
• Patient monitoring
• Aftercare, follow-up appointments etc.
Monitoring Systems
Comparing data continuously with observed system or with
prescribed behavior such as leakage monitoring in long
petroleum pipeline.
Methods of detection include hydrostatic testing, infrared,
and laser technology after pipeline erection and leak
detection during service. Pipeline networks are the most
economic and safest mode of transportation for oil, gases and
other fluid products.
Process Control Systems
Controlling a physical process based on monitoring.
• Video Surveillance Analytics
• Crowd Monitoring
• Decision-Making Capabilities(Have you ever asked Siri to dial
a number or Alex to look up directions)
 Knowledge Domain
Finding out faults in vehicles, computers
• BMW I3 when a fault comes it show up on screen
Artificial Intelligence helps companies in the financial industry save time
and money through the use of algorithms to generate insights, improve
customer service, and make predictions about company sales performance.
 Finance/Commerce
The Semantic Web
 Web
 The web is a system of interlinked documents accessed via
the internet.
 Computer use network protocol to communicate in network.
 Web browser use HTTP to communicate with web servers.
Semantics
Semantic is related to the word “Syntax” but Syntax is how to
say something and semantic in is the meaning behind what
you say.
 Web 2.0
Web 2.0 describe world wide web website that emphasize
user generated content and usability (easy of used even by
non experts) for end users.
Example :
YouTube social networking sites such as Facebook etc.
The semantic web
 The semantic web is an extension of the current web in
which information is given well defined meaning better
enabling computers and people to work in co-operation.
 Today web is about documents but semantic web is about
things.
 It can recognise people place events companies products
movies etc. It can understand the relationship between
things.
Example of Semantic Web
 Suppose you want to watch a movie and grab something to eat.
 You like and action movie and Italian food.
 Now you perform search for movie theatres and restaurants.
 In this phenomenon you spend half an hour doing to planning.
 This is how things work today.
 Next generation of web will change how things work.
 Sematic web will make search task faster and easier by making surges
more personalized.
As
You could enter “I want to watch an action movie and then want to have a
dinner at an Italian restaurant” and, the semantic web will display the
result for you. The semantic web will act as a personal assistant.
Advantages
 Semantic web will make search task
faster and easier.
 Semantic web will make search more
personalized.
 Semantic web browser will act as a
personal assistant.
Thank You
