This document discusses how to form comparative adjectives in English. There are three main rules:
1. For one-syllable adjectives ending in e, add -r (e.g. wider, finer).
2. For one-syllable adjectives with one vowel and one consonant at the end, double the final consonant and add -er (e.g. hotter, bigger).
3. For one-syllable adjectives with more than one vowel or consonant at the end, add -er (e.g. lighter, neater, faster). Examples are provided to illustrate each rule.
