The human brain is divided into two hemispheres called the left and right hemispheres. The left hemisphere controls language production and comprehension and is specialized for language. Tests have shown that language is suppressed when the left hemisphere is disabled. Aphasia is caused by damage to language areas of the brain and can be classified as Broca's aphasia or Wernicke's aphasia, depending on the location of the damage.
