The 1994 FIFA World Cup was hosted in the United States from June 17th to July 17th. It was the first time the tournament was held outside of Europe or Latin America. Brazil defeated Italy in a penalty shootout in the final to claim their fourth World Cup title. The tournament broke records for average attendance with nearly 69,000 spectators per game. A total of 3.6 million fans attended matches overall, making the 1994 World Cup the best attended in history at that time.
