1. INTRO
I am a highly driven and motivated person who is committed to achieving and exceeding
demanding targets and objectives while remaining focussed on providing exceptional
standards of service to clients whilst always of aware of the company profit margins.
I am a details orientated and organised self-starter with sound business judgement and I
specialise in business development and customer retention.
I possess strong cross-group/ business and discipline skills and the skills and experience to
include account management, report creating, project management, system design, new
business prospecting and margin enhancement through savings.
I am both a team player and capable of working independently and have over the years
excelled in any position I have secured.
A thorough professional, I have worked extensively with the National Probation Directorate
in England and Wales managing and designing the Fire and Security systems which are
unique to the type of environment that are Bail hostels. I also designed and managed the
systems in their offices.
EXAMPLE 1
SITUATION AND/OR TASK
Employed by EA_RS Group for this purpose, I was asked to review the original project
design for cryogenic suppression systems (CO2) for 2 large data centres based in the North
East of England.
I was asked to review the initial project design which had been started by a sub contractor
and submit a revised design for the data centres.
ACTION
Following my own assessment and a full rework of the design I made several changes and
addressed the flaws in the original design giving the client a far better level of coverage.
RESULT
I won the contract which was an excellent result for a relatively small privately funded
company and was asked to manage the project to completion.
I was able to save 30K from a total job value of 1.2m thus increasing profit and improving
the level of coverage for the client.
I have worked on many data centres in the UK assisting with the design and delivery of new
systems and maintenance nationally utilising my existing client base and prospecting for new
business on a national basis.
EXAMPLE 2- SENTINEL
SITUATION AND/OR TASK
When I joined Sentinel in 2012, it was a fairly small company funded privately and I was
employed to move the business to the next level.
My primary responsibility was to find & nurture new clients, whilst maintaining the existing
ones. establish a profitable customer base and endeavour to build that base into something
that would be further sustained by repeat business.
2. ACTION
I was involved in the day to day design and pricing on all jobs derived from existing and new
clients. I personally project managed all of my installations from start to finish due to
constraints on the company budget.
I introduced the company to Thames Water and Morgan Sindall to name but 2 and secured
profitable contracts which I oversaw from design to completion.
RESULT
Contract Value – Morgan Sindall - £925k – to provide fire detection and suppression to the
diesel generator hall and 3 containerised generator units located at Hampton and Ashford
water treatment works.
Key Achievements –
• Delivery of the project on time and within budget. increased the gross margin from
25% to 37% by agreeing changes with the client that produced a system that complied with
all of the required parameters set by Thames Water.
• Installation of sharp fibre fire cladding to cover a 33kv cable tray and supporting
pillars to safeguard the facility for up to 4 hours in the event of a serious fire taking hold.
-------------------------------------------------
Chubb Fire Systems
My primary focus was to develop the Utilities Sector and the UK Probation Service into a
standalone business within the Chubb Framework.
I substantially developed the business with both Thames Water and Anglian Water.
I also substantially increased the amount of work with the UK Probation Service, covering
bail hostels and probation offices throughout England and Wales installing access control,
CCTV, Staff attack systems, intruder detection and fire alarm systems.
Contract Value – 3 to 4 million per annum across the estate.
Key Achievements
• No 1 performing Corporate Account Manager every year.
• Awarded with 3 continental holidays for top performing sales.
I also designed and project managed the Ultrafog security systems into all the cash in
transit depots for G4S.
EXAMPLES OF NOTABLE PROJECTS WORKED ON.
NATIONAL PROBATION DIRECTORATE
72 Offices within England and Wales:- Installation of staff attack systems: CCTV: Intruder
detection and Fire detection systems. Approximate value £3m over 3-4 years.
THAMES WATER, HAMPTON
Site wide fire detection system covering all buildings: atomised water misting system on the
generator hall: Total value over 2 years £1.8m
I also designed a Durasteel fire cladding solution to protect the critical high voltage cable
tray. Value of Contract £850k.
THAMES WATER , KEW
Full fire system covering all buildings: Shaft protection covering all levels in 80ft shaft
utilising aspirating detection for early warning purposes: Total value £325k
In total I completed over 60 individual projects for Thames water to allow them to
achieve the UK standard for Life protection (L1).
3. Errors /Failures in life-not achieving desired goals
Of course not everything in life runs smoothly and with hindsight, I would probably would
never have made the move from Chubb, a a national company, to a small outfit like Sentinel,
albeit at the time of joining a well funded one courtesy of the profits the overseas arm was
making.
Sadly, when the problems in the Gulf started a few years ago, all the staff over there were
withdrawn and brought back to the UK which resulted in the company being hugely
overstaffed and it had massive financial implications and that coupled with the Joint Owners
having a huge disagreement and ultimately disbanding said partnership brought about
redundancies for many of the staff including me and ultimately the Company went into
administration.
From a personal point of view this brought about a period of uncertainty for me and I would
probably say that my career has stalled somewhat in the interim period and although I have
for the most part been working and have had some moderate success, most notably the data
centre installations, I have been largely unfulfilled from a professional point of view.
It is with this in mind that I am being very selective in my applications and am
ultimately looking to join a stable and well established, forward thinking company, who
are looking to the long term and the benefits my portfolio of clients could offer them,
whilst realising that they will require patience, nurturing and cultivating with the
perceived long term prospects the ultimate goal.
