Sector, through the adoption of high
service standards, fostering activism and
education on trade in services issues and

sustain service providers’
competitiveness in the global
marketplace.”

identified services as a priority sector
 2001 Meeting of Heads of Government
Mandated Establishment of Services Coalitions
● January 2009 SLCSI Relaunched

Reality for Supporting the National Services Sector
 17 % of population (28,068) between 15-24 years
old!!
 41 % of population (68,052) under 35 years old!!!
 Need to stimulate growth in new areas of economic
activity
 Find innovative ways of adding value
 Need to fit into new global value chains

Some practical considerations and points to note…...
 SLCSI acts as a co-ordinating point for the Government and
others for cross-sectoral services trade and development
issues;
 SLCSI encourage service suppliers to become members of an
Association or Chamber to access the benefits of the
coalition;
 SLCSI provides opportunities for leverage created by other
sub-sectors ;
 SLCSI provides support to member associations in meeting
their respective objectives;
