The most important insights from
the talk were..
• Why there can be no panacea, and why
universality isn’t a good thing in today’s world.
Back in 1970’s, people embraced universality,
and embraced the idea of accepting things as
‘they should be’
It all changed with time, and the advent of
genetics paved the way for the idea of variability
• Why variability is better
No two people are the same, which holds true
for all aspects of life, and consumerism too
Variability brings in a sense of familiarity and
this makes people happier
How are these insights useful for
Indian Managers ?
• Helps them come up with ideas which are
aimed at people with a particular culture and
lifestyle, instead of just people in general.
• Helps them build better relations with not
only their peers and subordinates, but also
with their clients
• Helps generate a positive feedback.
• This in turn helps the firm identify its target
audiences and therefore, it can customise it’s
products to suit the needs of it’s various
consumers
• Once this is achieved, sales will go up, and so
will the firm’s profits.
• Also, it is important to the manager to avoid
being universal in his/her approach. This
enables the manager to make more
personalised decisions from the consumer’s
perspective.
