The scout bee returns to the hive after finding a good source of nectar. She alerts and recruits other bees to the source by performing a dance on the vertical face of the comb. The dance communicates information about the scent, direction, and distance of the floral source to other worker bees. The tempo of the dance indicates how far away the source is from the hive.
