Chess boxing is a hybrid sport that combines chess and boxing, with rounds alternating between a 4-minute chess match and a 3-minute boxing round. The sport was conceived in 1992 but was established in 2003 by Iepe Rubingh. It is governed by the World Chess Boxing Organization, which held its first world championship in Amsterdam in 2003 where Iepe Rubingh became the champion.
