Present perfect tense
What’s present perfect?
 The tense is used to show an action has taken place at an indefinite time in the past.
 Structures and Examples
Positive : s + have/has + third form of the verb +
complement
Negative: s + have/has +not + third form of the verb +
complement
Question: have/has+ s + third form of the verb +
complement
Negative Interrogative : have/has+ s + third form of the
verb + complement
Positive: She has done her homework.
Negative: She has not done her homework.
Question: Has she done her homework?
Hasn’t she done her homework?
Usages
 Used to talk about recent actions that the result is in present.
Example: Mom I’ve cleaned the refrigerator. It looks new.
 Used to talk about actions occurring in an incomplete period of time. Indicated
by today, this morning, afternoon, evening, week , month ,year and etc.
Example: They have visited us several times this week.
 Used to talk about habitual actions.
Example: She has never kept my secrets.
 Used to describe repeated actions in an unspecific period of time between the
past and now. The expressions twice, once, several times, three times, many
times.
Example: I’ve seen my fiancé three times.
Present perfect with since and for
 Present perfect with for and since is used to express an action which lasts
throughout an incomplete period. Action begin in the past and continuous to
present.
 For: With a period of time.
We have been in Paris for ten years.( still live there)
 Since : Point the action started
We have been in Paris since 2020.(still here)
