Born on 1933 in Palakkad District.
Great Novelist in Malayalam Literature
Major works : Nalukett, Kalam
Awards : India’s highest literary award, the
Jnanpith.
Sri. M. T. Vasudean Nair in his article ‘Memories of a Dying River’
speaks of the pathetic conditions of ‘Nila’ or ‘Bharathapuzha which once
fostered his childhood dreams and once had been a lifeline for the people
of our state. It is a nostalgic remembrance of the days of plentitude
abundance and pristine glory of Nila .
The author remembers that the newly constructed
bridge across the Bharathapuzha in 1954 became
subject of the celebrated poem “Kuttippuram
Paalam’ By Edasseri.
Today the river riverbed is doted with
mounds on which bushes grow.
The village of
Cheruthuruthi where
Vallathol established
the famous “Kerala
Kalamandalam’ is
situated on its banks.
Bharatapuzha was a
witness to battles and
historical spectacles like
Mamankam.
