NAVLE - ICVA
The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination
(NAVLE) is a requirement for licensure to practice
veterinary medicine in all licensing jurisdictions in the
US and Canada.
BVSc & AH (Bachelor of

 The NAVLE is offered throughout North America
and certain overseas sites at computer testing
centers operated by Prometric® .
 The NAVLE is available during a four-week testing
window in November–December, and a two-week
window in April.
 The NAVLE consists of 360 clinically relevant
multiple-choice questions.

is a AVMA recognized College of Veterinary Medicine.
They are in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK,
Ireland, France, Netherlands, Mexico, West Indies,
South Korea.
Non-accredited AVMA listed Veterinary School:
Veterinary Colleges listed by AVMA but not
recognised by AVMA Council on Education.
All VCI recognised Veterinary Colleges are AVMA
listed colleges including CVSc & AH, Rewa.

To practice or to get employment in Central (Federal)
or State govt. in USA as a VETERINARIAN you have to
pass two examinations:
1) ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign
Veterinary Graduate) : an educational equivalency
certificate examination. ECFVG certificate is a pre-
requisite to appear for the NAVLE.
2) NAVLE (The North American Veterinary Licensing
Examination) : It has to be cleared by the students
of all the 32 College of Vety Medicine of USA.

ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign
Veterinary Graduate) is FOUR step examination to be
cleared in following order :
1) Registration and Proof of Graduation.
2) English Language Ability.
3) Basic and Clinical Sciences Exam (BCSE) – to assess
the Basic and Clinical Sciences knowledge.
4) Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE) – to assess the
Clinical Skills Assessment.

ECFVG STEP 1: Registration* and Proof of Graduation.
1) Submit the online application.
2) Deposit fee online = USD 1400/-
ECFVG program application fee = USD 675/-
ECFVG Quality Assurance Program (QAP) fee = USD 725/-

ECFVG STEP 2: English Language Ability.
appear in The TOEFL-iBT® Test (Test of English as Foreign
Language – internet Based Test) conducted by ETS
(Educational Testing Service).
ECFVG requires original score reports directly from ETS.
In India, Prometric® Testing Pvt. Ltd, Gurgaon conducts

You will receive 4 scaled section scores and a total score.
 Each section has a score range of 0–30.
 These are added together for a total score of 0–120.
ECFVG requires following minimum scores:
1) Listening = 25
2) Writing = 22
3) Speaking = 22
4) Reading = 23
However, there is no minimum OVERALL score.
TOEFL score is valid for TWO years only.

ECFVG STEP 3: Basic and Clinical Sciences Exam (BCSE).
It is a computer based exam administered by AVMA to
assess your Basic & Clinical Veterinary Sciences
Knowledge.
In India, BCSE is conducted by Prometric® , Gurgaon.
BCSE fee = USD 220/-
Prometric = USD 45/-
Time = 240 min (4 hours)
No. of question = 225

Out of the 225 questions, 25 questions will be pre-test
and will not be scored.
These additional will be intermingled with scored
questions. So you have to attempt all 225 questions.
There is no negative marking.

Scores on the ECFVG examination are determined by
converting the number of questions answered correctly
out of the number of questions administered to a scale
that ranges from approximately 300 to beyond 900.
The scale passing score has been set by the ECFVG at
580, which corresponds to a level of achievement
judged by ECFVG to represent minimum competency.

ECFVG STEP 3: Surgical Experience Documentation form.
Proof of having performed in the 5 year period PRIOR to
candidate’s Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE) – Next Step.
1) One ovario-hysterectomy as primary surgeon.
2) Five additional surgical procedures as either primary
or assistant surgeon – could be OH or any surgery.
You will take certificate from your Surgery Department in
the prescribed format.

ECFVG STEP 4: Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE).
CPE is a 3-day, 7 section, hands-on (practical) clinical
skills examination.
Center – Veterinary School in US (Mississippi, 2019)
Fee = USD 7,630/- (USD 7,430/- CPE Application fee +
USD 200/- Administrative fee)

ECFVG STEP 4: Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE).
Eligibility – Completed ECFVG Steps 1, 2 and 3.
You must achieve Pass Grade in EACH of the 7 Sections.
1) Anesthesia (Canine)
2) Equine practice
3) Food animal practice
4) Necropsy
5) Radiographic positioning (small animal)
6) Small animal medicine
7) Surgery (Canine ovario-hysterectomy)

NAVLE - ICVA
Pre-requisite – ECFVG Certificate.
Fees – USD 670/- + USD 320/- (Overseas testing)
(+ fee for Registration at the State Veterinary Board).
Place - Prometric® , Gurgaon.
NAVLE Exam : Maximum attempts – 5
CBT Clinically Relevant MCQ only exam.
6 Sections – 60 questions each = 360 MCQs
Like BCSE, 60 questions will be unscored.

time between sections, 15 min for tutorial.
