What is Asset Management
Asset management programs are defined as:
• Managing infrastructure capital assets to minimize the total cost of owning, operating, and
maintaining assets at acceptable levels of service
• It encompasses the entire organization and recognizes the interdependencies of
maintenance, operations, asset performance, personnel productivity, life cycle costs, and
capital planning.

Asset Management Program at KCP&L
• At the beginning of the year Asset Management team allocates CapEx and OpEx
budgets
• Based on third party surveys and inspections, ailing assets are identified
• Maintenance program is prioritized based on the condition of assets and their potential
impact on customer outage
• Budget is allocated and maintenance programs are defined for worst performing areas
• Throughout the year audits are conducted to analyze the actual spending in work
management system and the allocated budget
• At the end of the year, effectiveness of the maintenance program is evaluated against the
number of customer outages and their impact on outage cost

–Based on outage calls grouping of failures to determine the point of failure.

asset.
