How many of us here have been to
a restaurant?
When we sit down the server comes over,
we call them a waiter or waitess, now what
is their job?
●This is easy to understand when we are
speaking about restaurants, but what about
when we are speaking about being “a
servant of God?”
●Mk 10:44 And whosoever of you will be
the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

What does it mean to be a servant
of God?
(Lk. 17:7-10 cf. Phil. 2:5-8)
●We must be willing to submit!
●We must be willing to serve!
●We must be willing to sacrifice!
●There are two very different words translated
“servant” here.
−Doulos = bond-servant/slave
−Diakonos = attendant, waiter, servant,
minister

In Luke 17:7-10 we find the function
of being a servant, but tonight let us
study the focus!
●Tonight we come to see our need to
“desire” to become a servant of God!
●When we move from the function to the
focus we are dealing with our attitude and
appetite for becoming a servant of God!
−2 Tim. 3:12 Yes, and all who desire to live
godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

I. The Greatest Example!
●There truly is no better example than the Lord Jesus
Christ! Jesus is our God-given example of how to live
our lives!
−1 Cor 11:1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
−Eph 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear
children.
−1 Pet 2:21 For to this you were called, because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that you should follow His steps:
−1 Jn 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought
himself also to walk just as He walked.

II. The Greatest Encouragement!
●One of the greatest blessing of being a Christian
is to know that Christ is with us!
●When Jesus gives the Great Commission, He
promised to always be with us!
−Mt 28:20 "teaching them to observe all things
that I have commanded you; and I am with you
always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
−Heb 13:5 Let your conduct be without
covetousness; be content with such things as you
have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave
you nor forsake you."

*0 When we go out as a servant of God, God
goes with us!
Knowing this should be encouraging!
●He doesn’t leave us alone and we don't have to do it
on our own!
●Paul declared “I can do all things...”
−Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me.
●When we meet someone that serves in the military
or law enforcement they will tell you “it is a honor to
serve!”
−We need to understand that “it is a honor to serve
in the kingdom of God!”

III. The Greatest Enrichment!
Act. 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by
laboring like this, that you must support the weak.
And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that
He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to
receive.”
●This doesn’t only apply to our money!
●We can give in three ways!
−Our time!
−Our talents!
−Our treasures!

There is an enrichment in serving
others!
It is a blessing to bless others!
●We are blessed to become a blessing, forgiven
to become forgiving, comforted to comfort
others!
●Have you ever noticed how you feel when you
didn’t help someone that you know you should
have? The way it makes us feel ashamed &
uneasy, now the opposite is true as well, there is
satisfaction & enrichment in helping others!

●When we are young, we have so much
energy and potential. We are able to do
things that we could never imagine as
we get older. So why not use that time
and energy to serve God? When we
serve God in our youth, we are able to
have a great impact on His Kingdom.
We can reach people that may never be
reached otherwise. We can be a light in
the darkness and help lead others to
Christ.

●There are many benefits to serve God
in our youth. One of the most important
is that it helps us to develop a strong
relationship with Him. When we serve
God with a pure heart, He blesses us
abundantly and we grow closer to Him.
Additionally, serving God in our youth
helps us to develop important character
traits such as patience, perseverance,
and self-control.
