Cultural realities in „Breakfast at
Tiffany‘s“
Zubenko Anna 1-17-1
• There are a lot of cultural realities in
„Breakfast at Tiffany‘s“.
• Let's look at some of them!
She knew all the show hits, Cole
Porter and Kurt Weill; especially she
liked the songs from Oklahoma!,
which were new that summer and
everywhere.
Она знала все ходовые песни: Кола
Портера, Курта Вайля и особенно
любила мелодии из «Оклахомы»!,
которые тем летом пелись повсюду.
Cole Porter
Kurt Weill
• Cole Porter and Kurt Weill are musicians of of
the USA.
• Experts consider Cole Porter one of the
outstanding American composers of the light
genre in American history.
• Kurt Weill held the ideal of writing music that
served a socially useful purpose.
• The music of these musicians is very much
loved, it‘s amazing.
Oklahoma
• Oklahoma! is the first musical written by the
duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
• Oklahoma is a state in the South Central
region of the United States.
• However, this word has a different meaning
which is used when expressing surprise.
• Its Russian equilants are
Ёшкин кот!А, ё-к-л-м-н!
• These musical realities are used in the book
„Breakfast at Tiffany's" to complement the
image of Miss Golightly. Thanks to this, it can
be understood that although this heroine is
found at the beginning of the story, she is very
important for the plot, since many details are
described about her
• We modeled her along the Margaret Sullavan
type, but she could pitch some curves of her own,
people were interested, big ones, and to top it all,
Benny Polan, a respected guy, Benny wants to
marry her.
• Мы смоделировали её по типу Маргарет
Саллаван, но она могла изобразить некоторые
свои изгибы, люди были заинтересованы,
большие, и в довершение всего Бенни Полан,
уважаемый парень, Бенни хочет жениться на
ней.
Margaret Sullavan
Margaret Sullivan is an American actress, for her
contribution to cinema, she was awarded a star
on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame
• A visiting relative took me to „21”, and there, at a superior table,
surrounded by four men, none of them Mr. Arbuck, yet all of them
interchangeable with him, was Miss Golightly, idly, publicly combing
her hair; and her expression, an unrealized yawn, put, by example, a
dampener on the excitement I felt over dining at so swanky a place.
„21"
• „21" is the name of a fashionable New York
restaurant, there is a bar and variety
performances are given in this place.
• The mention of this restaurant is made to
show how rich her relative is, how much he
can afford.
Thank you for you attention!
