Lumba-lumba hidung botol (bottlenose dolphin) adalah spesies lumba-lumba yang
paling umu.. Gangguan sistem respirasi pada lumba-lumba sering dijumpai, 5 dari
10 lumba-lumba (50%) positif Staphylococcus aureus, Berdasarkan hasil penelitian,
pemeriksaan klinis lumba-lumba dapat dilakukan dengan cara inspeksi terhadap
blowhole, tingkah laku hewan, adanya “chuff” atau “honk”, frekuensi respirasi,
sosialisasi hewan dan posisi hewan saat berenang. Pengujian fungsi paru
dilakukan pada 3 lumba-lumba hidung botol Tursiops truncatus (1 betina dan 2
jantan) Radiografi paru dan uji klinis standar digunakan untuk mengevaluasi
kesehatan paru setiap lumba-lumba. Data fungsi paru dikumpulkan dari upaya
pernapasan maksimal dalam air dan dari napas spontan saat terdampar.Penelitian
selanjutnya bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi laju respirasi induk ikan blackhead
seabream pada beberapa tingkatan suhu. Ikan blackhead seabream diteliti
menggunakan respirometer dalam sistem resirkulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan
bahwa kecenderungan laju respirasi meningkat secara linier dengan peningkatan
suhu perlakuan.
