By: Alia Ramadani
What is word
formation ?
Word formation is the process by which
new words are formed by adding an affix,
another word or converting from one
word class to another by removing and
adding alphabets
word formatioan is divided into 5
parts, namely:
Affixations have several
types, such as prefixes,
suffixes, infixes, and
circumfixes
1) Affication
● Example :
Prefix : Biomethane
cycloheptane
cyclohexane
Suffix : Accretor
Circumfixes : Afrofuturism
Coloanialism
Unionism
2) Compounding
Compounding is a process of
combining words into new
words. These words have
separate meanings, but when
combined they can become new
words
Example :
Batcmate
homework
In all languages, we often encounter
abbreviations. Likewise in English
Example - MRS (Magnetic Resonance
Spectroscopy)
- LW (Long Wafe)
- SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit)
- BTW (By the Way)
3) Abbreviation
An acronym is a pronounceable word that is formed using the
first letters of several words. These letters combine to make a
shortened word for people to say rather than repeating
themselves a full name or a few words over and over again
Example :
ISA (industry Standard Architecture)
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Healt Administration)
4) Acronym
5) Blending
The process of blending in English is
combining two words into one word that is
easy to understand.
Example :
* stagflation
* smog
“Successful people never
give up, and people who
give up never succeed.”

Thanks
