Menurut Undang-Undang No. 10 Tahun 1998,
Bank adalah badan usaha yang menghimpun
dana dari masyarakat dalam bentuk simpanan
dan mengeluarkannya dalam bentuk kredit dan
/atau lainnya dalam rangka meningkatkan taraf
hidup masyarakat banyak.

Dalam hal menyalurkan dana kepada masyarakat, bank dapat memberikan
