POWERPOINT PITCH
Sub Genre

 We have decided to go with a supernatural/psychological thriller
having listened and interpreted audience feedback. It seems both
genres are very popular and when pitching our idea many said it
sounded supernatural even though we aimed for psychological. The
narrative still contains many conventions of a psychological thriller
so we are still keeping that sub-genre along with supernatural which
there are also conventions in the narrative. We have decided on
these sub-genres because we believe we can create the best
narrative and film with them and they seem very popular with the
   people we asked.
Plot for the film and why?
 We have decided that our film will include as a main feature, a reoccurring image of a hooded
figure who’s species is not identified to emphasise the unknown and mystery of the plot which
adds to the theme of confusion by terrorising when they are alone, leading them to be paranoid to
cause a mental breakdown or even worse suicide. The opening sequence of our film will begin with
the protagonist walking around his house doing chores before he hears his phone receive a text.
He then walks to his bedroom where his phone is and reads the text which says something about
his house. Following this he looks out of the window and sees a figure on the other side of the
street, he then shuts his curtains and turns and faces a mirror where he sees the same figure stood
in the doorway of his bedroom. He turns in shock to see that the figure has yet again disappeared.
This begins the theme of confusion and initiates the protagonists paranoia of this ‘unknown’
character. We next see the protagonist in his kitchen feeding his dog where we once again see the
antagonist in a reflection in the window, however the protagonist doesn’t see him this time. We
next see the protagonist sitting down watching TV when he hears a noise, turns to the camera in
shock and goes to investigate what is there. We then move on to the bathroom where the
protagonist is preparing himself for bed, he looks up and sees the hooded figure behind through
the reflection of the mirror, everything goes black and that will be the end of the opening
sequence. We have opted for this because of the cold narrative and quite a disturbing which is
effective if we want to meet the conventions of genre.
How will this appeal to the
audience?
 We believe our narrative will appeal to our target
audience because it meets many conventions of the
genre and it is very original. Also, it will excite and enthral
the audience because they will be gripped due to it
playing with their mind. When doing our research into
our audience we discovered that supernatural and
psychological are quite popular and people seemed to
like thriller films with suspense in them which our film
will certainly include. We are also planning on keeping
the identity and species of the antagonist a mystery to
further confuse the audience and confusion is a major
  theme in our film.
When does the narrative
begin?
 Our narrative will begin when our protagonist
looks out of his window and sees the figure
on the other side of the street. This is because
we want to grip the attention of the viewer
straight away and get them into the story line
quickly rather than watching lots of needless
sub-plots whilst waiting for the narrative to
  begin.
How will your product
introduce everything?
 The narrative will be introduced early on when
the protagonist sees the mysterious figure on
the other side of the street. The characters are
automatically introduced when the narrative is
because the opening scenes show all of the
characters in the films and starts in the prime
location of the piece. We have opted for this
because the film doesn’t take very long to set
the scene and allows the product to go straight
  into the main plot
Representations

 Our product will represent fear and confusion
above all. These feelings will be exhibited
through the emotion and frantic nature the
character expresses which will be shown through
close-ups. The antagonist will be illustrated as
mysterious through the dark attire, lack of
speech and supernatural movement. To create
yet more confusion his species will be left for the
viewer’s imagination so they can create their
own conclusions as to what he is
Mood & Tone

 At the start of the opening sequence it will
feel normal as the character works around
the house. However when the antagonist is
introduced it will be very eerie and tense. This
will be represented through the sudden drop
in lighting and change in sound. The
atmosphere this creates should give an
aurora of fear and make the audience
  sympathise with the character
How will it grab the
audiences attention?
 The mystery in the narrative which is created
  through camerawork and mise-en-scene should
grab the audience’s attention. This is because it
will make the narrative interesting and the
viewer shouldn’t get bored watching it because
they’re wondering what is happening. Confusion
is a big theme in the film and this will hopefully
interest the audience because it makes the film a
littler bit more complex and adds to the
  psychological feel
